The Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom will reportedly close for a month-long refurbishment starting September 28. According to reports on Monday, the operating calendar currently shows the attraction returning on October 30.

As of Wednesday, September 2, Disney has not made an official announcement regarding the closure, but the downtime appears on the park’s schedule.

The Walt Disney World Railroad is an opening-day attraction that typically takes guests on a round-trip circle tour of Magic Kingdom. Currently, due to ongoing construction in Frontierland, the steam trains are operating in a modified shuttle mode, running back and forth between the Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland stations.

What we know

What’s not confirmed

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the train do a full loop when it reopens?

Disney has not announced if the Frontierland construction will allow the train to resume full-circle operation by October 30, or if it will remain in shuttle mode.

Do I need to change my Lightning Lane strategy?

No. The Walt Disney World Railroad does not use Lightning Lane Multi Pass, so its closure will not affect your daily ride reservations.

Can I still see the trains during the closure?

Usually, trains undergoing maintenance are stored away in the roundhouse, so they likely will not be visible to guests while the ride is closed.
