Disney World Switches Merchandise Shipping to Outside Vendor
Published September 3, 2026
Walt Disney World has reportedly changed how guests ship theme park and resort merchandise home, handing the service to third-party provider Ricoh. According to reports, the new system took effect September 1, 2026, and prices shipments by package size rather than by the declared value of what’s inside.
As of Thursday, September 3, 2026, that is a reversal of how it worked before. Under the previous setup, guests paid based on the total value of the merchandise being shipped and had to produce receipts for everything in the box; international shipping reportedly ran between $30 and $150.
The process itself is now a bag-and-scan flow. Reports describe guests placing purchases into an appropriately sized bag, scanning a QR code to fill out the shipping form and pay, sealing the bag with a provided zip-tie tag, and handing it back to a Cast Member. Ricoh then emails a confirmation with tracking.
Every rate reportedly includes $100 of insurance at no extra cost. Additional coverage runs about $1 to $2 per extra $100 of declared value, starting around $5, up to a listed maximum of $5,000. Packages over 50 pounds are treated as overweight and priced higher.
Shipping is available through Cast Members at park and resort gift shops, plus a dedicated shipping station at the back of Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs.
What we know
- Effective date — the new policy reportedly went into effect September 1, 2026
- Provider — Ricoh, a third-party shipping company, replaces Disney’s previous in-house process
- Pricing basis — package size, not merchandise value; over 50 pounds is surcharged as overweight
- Insurance — $100 included in every rate; more coverage costs roughly $1–$2 per additional $100, capped at a listed $5,000
- Where to do it — any gift shop Cast Member, or the dedicated station in the back of Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs
What’s not confirmed
Disney has not publicly confirmed the change or published the new rate card, so the specific size-based prices are not available here. Guests are reporting online that receipts are no longer required and that bags can hold whatever fits — that is guest chatter, not a stated policy, and Disney has not confirmed it. Whether the old value-based option remains available anywhere on property also has not been announced.
What it means for your trip
If you’re buying big — a Loungefly haul, a spirit jersey run, anything bulky — size-based pricing likely works in your favor compared with paying on value. If you’re shipping one $40 item, it may now cost more than it used to; carry it.
The real play is luggage math. A single overweight checked bag fee on the way home is often in the same range as a shipping charge, so weigh the bag at your resort before you decide. Deciding at the airport is how you end up paying both.
Build in time on your last full day. The Marketplace Co-Op station at Disney Springs is the cleanest option if you’re consolidating purchases from multiple parks, and Disney Springs is an easy final-evening stop that doesn’t burn a park morning.
Don’t assume receipts are optional until Disney says so. Keep them until you’ve handed the bag over.
