How Busy Is Disney World for Christmas Week? Best Times
Published October 27, 2026
Christmas Week is about as busy as Disney World gets. SupaPark’s crowd forecast for Dec 20–27, 2026 puts every park between 9.6/10 and 10.0/10. EPCOT is the busiest at an average of 10.0/10, and Magic Kingdom is the lightest at 9.6/10. The gap between the busiest and lightest park is under half a point, so picking a quieter park won’t save you. When you ride matters much more.
Here’s how to plan a week where every park is close to maxed out.
The Christmas Week Crowd Forecast, Park by Park
SupaPark’s forecast for Dec 20–27 (pulled Oct 27):
- EPCOT: averages 10.0/10, peaking at 10/10 on Dec 20
- Hollywood Studios: averages 10.0/10, peaking at 10/10 on Dec 20
- Animal Kingdom: averages 9.8/10, peaking at 10/10 on Dec 21
- Magic Kingdom: averages 9.6/10, peaking at 10/10 on Dec 21
Two parks averaging a flat 10.0 means the forecast shows no easy day at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios all week. Every park also hits 10/10 on Sunday, Dec 20 or Monday, Dec 21, the start of the holiday break. If your dates are flexible, don’t spend those days on the park you care about most.
Why Magic Kingdom Comes Out Lightest
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party runs on Dec 20 and Dec 22, and on party nights the park closes early to regular day guests, which likely pulls down Magic Kingdom’s 9.6 average.
Without party tickets, think twice about Magic Kingdom on Dec 20 or Dec 22: you lose the evening, when lines often ease. Dec 21 is its 10/10 peak, so pick a Magic Kingdom day later in the week. If you’re doing the party, spend that daytime at another park.
When You Ride Matters More Than Which Park
SupaPark’s wait data from the last 30 days (Sep 28–Oct 26) shows how much a ride’s wait swings between its best and worst hour. It comes from a much calmer season, so expect higher numbers in December, but the daily pattern tends to hold.
Median posted waits, best hour vs. worst hour:
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: 5 min at 8 AM vs 38 min at 1 PM
- Jungle Cruise: 5 min at 8 AM vs 40 min at 12 PM
- Test Track: 30 min at 8 AM vs 75 min at 11 AM
- Frozen Ever After: 20 min at 8 AM vs 65 min at 1 PM
- Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: 15 min at 8 AM vs 55 min at 11 AM
- Na’vi River Journey: 15 min at 8 AM vs 45 min at 11 AM
- Slinky Dog Dash: 30 min at 9 PM vs 70 min at 12 PM
- Kilimanjaro Safaris: 10 min at 3 PM vs 55 min at 10 AM
In almost every case, 8 AM beats late morning by 30 to 45 minutes per ride. Do that for three rides and you’ve saved more than two hours before lunch. Christmas Week only widens the gap.
Three patterns worth noting:
- Slinky Dog Dash is better at night. In SupaPark’s data its best hour was 9 PM, not rope drop. Use your Hollywood Studios morning on another ride and come back to Slinky after dark.
- Kilimanjaro Safaris is worst in the morning. Its peak was 10 AM and its best hour was 3 PM. Do Na’vi River Journey early and the Safari in the afternoon. In December, check sunset and the park’s closing time, because the animals are harder to see late in the day.
- Animal Kingdom empties out late. In the same data, its top-five median dropped to 15 min at 5 PM and 10 min at 6 PM. Check that night’s closing time, since Animal Kingdom often closes earlier than the other parks.
Park-by-Park Strategy for Christmas Week
EPCOT (busiest, 10.0): Recently its top-five median ran from 30 min at 8 AM to 65 min at 4 PM and stayed high into the evening. Ride Test Track and Frozen Ever After first and save World Showcase for the afternoon. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a Single Pass ride, so if it’s a must-do, decide in advance whether to buy it.
Hollywood Studios (10.0): Waits peak around 11 AM (55 min median recently) and ease to 33 min by 8 PM. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is a Single Pass ride, and on a 10/10 day that’s the one I’d consider paying for.
Animal Kingdom (9.8): Avatar Flight of Passage is the Single Pass ride here.
Magic Kingdom (9.6): Recent data shows the lowest wait at 8 AM (25 min median) and the highest at 12 PM (45 min). Big Thunder and Jungle Cruise are close to walk-ons at opening. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle / Run are both Single Pass rides, so if you won’t pay, your best free option is to be there at opening.
Lightning Lane on a 10/10 Week
On a normal week, Lightning Lane Multi Pass can be optional. On a 10/10 week, it’s often what keeps the middle of the day from falling apart. Some points to keep in mind:
- Book your selections ahead of time. Disney resort guests can start 7 days before arrival, and off-site guests 3 days before, at 7:00 AM Eastern. Christmas Week inventory for the most popular rides tends to go quickly.
- Don’t try to buy your way out of every line. A sensible plan: ride one headliner at opening for free, use Multi Pass for midday, and buy Single Pass only for the one ride your group would be upset to miss.
- Prices change by date and demand. Holiday dates are often at the high end, so check the price Disney shows for your day before deciding it’s worth it.
- After your first selections, keep booking. Once you use one, book the next in My Disney Experience. SupaPark can alert you when a sold-out ride refills, and you book it in the Disney app.
Dining: The Booking Window Is Already Open
Disney opens dining reservations 60 days ahead at 6:00 AM Eastern. As of late October, that window has already opened for almost all of Christmas Week. If you haven’t booked, the popular tables are probably taken.
Don’t give up on them, though. Holiday plans change, and tables do open up as families move park days or cancel. SupaPark’s Drop Watch alerts you when a table opens up, and then you book it yourself in My Disney Experience. Drop Watch alerts by email are included on the free plan.
Christmas Week Park Hours
Christmas Week 2026 hours are shorter than many families expect. See our breakdown in Disney Posts Shortened Christmas Week 2026 Park Hours, then confirm your exact dates in My Disney Experience. Disney resort guests get Early Theme Park Entry, which is most useful on a 10/10 day. Deluxe and Club-level guests should also check whether Extended Evening Hours are scheduled during their stay.
Frequently Asked Questions
How busy is Disney World during Christmas Week 2026?
Very busy. SupaPark forecasts EPCOT and Hollywood Studios at an average of 10.0/10 for Dec 20–27, 2026, Animal Kingdom at 9.8/10, and Magic Kingdom at 9.6/10.
Which Disney World park is least crowded during Christmas Week?
Magic Kingdom has the lowest forecast at 9.6/10, likely because Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party closes the park early to day guests on Dec 20 and Dec 22. The difference is small, so timing your day matters more than which park you pick.
What is the best time of day to ride during Christmas Week?
Early morning. SupaPark’s recent data shows headliners like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Test Track running 30–45 minutes shorter at 8 AM than in late morning. Slinky Dog Dash and Kilimanjaro Safaris are exceptions: they were shortest at night and mid-afternoon.
Can I still get dining reservations for Christmas Week?
The 60-day booking window is already open for nearly all of Christmas Week, so the most popular tables are probably gone. Tables do open up as plans change, though, and SupaPark’s Drop Watch can alert you when one does so you can book it in My Disney Experience.
