Live now: Haunted Mansion wait & status

According to reports, crews at Walt Disney World Resort demolished the former Ichabod’s Landing gift shop on Thursday, September 3, 2026, near Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom Park. The reported demolition is part of the broader construction push for Piston Peak National Park, the Cars-themed Frontierland addition now replacing the former Rivers of America area.

As of Thursday, September 3, Disney has not issued its own public confirmation of the Ichabod’s Landing demolition. The reported work follows earlier construction changes around Liberty Square and Frontierland, including the permanent 2025 closures of Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat to make way for the new area.

Disney first announced at D23 Expo 2024 that a Cars-themed land was coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom. The new mini-land, Piston Peak National Park, is planned to include two attractions and a setting inspired by U.S. national parks.

At D23 Expo 2026, Walt Disney Imagineering revealed the names of those two attractions: Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along. Reports say construction crews have already drained the former waterway and bulldozed portions of the area behind construction walls.

Ichabod’s Landing, formerly the Keelboat Shop, sat near the Haunted Mansion entrance gates. Reports say a nearby Mike Fink Keel Boats landing had already been demolished, while one building to the right of the former shop remains standing after recent framework was added.

What we know

What’s not confirmed

Disney has not confirmed the reported Ichabod’s Landing demolition in an official announcement. Disney also has not announced an opening date for Piston Peak National Park in the source facts provided, and it has not said whether the remaining nearby building will stay in place when the new area opens.

What it means for your trip

This is construction news around Haunted Mansion and Frontierland, not an announced Haunted Mansion closure. Still, treat the Liberty Square-to-Frontierland edge as a changing traffic zone: construction walls, blocked paths, and reroutes can make this area feel tighter than the map suggests.

If Haunted Mansion is a priority, do not assume the nearby work makes it a skip, but avoid building a plan that depends on cutting quickly through Frontierland. Check live operating status before crossing the park, and give yourself a little extra walking time around Liberty Square while this project continues.

The bigger trip-planning takeaway is that Magic Kingdom’s west side is in transition. Piston Peak National Park is clearly moving from announcement to visible site work, but until Disney gives firmer timing, plan around the park that exists now, not the one still behind construction walls.
