Magic Kingdom Railroad Closing for Five Weeks This Fall

Published September 6, 2026 · Updated October 19, 2026

The Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom will close completely for five weeks this fall, it was reported on August 31. As of Sunday, September 6, operating hours posted on the Walt Disney World website indicate the attraction will shut down on September 28 and resume service on October 30.

Since July 7, 2025, the train has been operating in a shortened “shuttle mode” between the Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland stations. That reduced schedule was put in place to accommodate construction in the northwest corner of the park, and the train has not completed a full loop since.

This new downtime does not modify the current shuttle route, but removes the attraction from service completely. The extended closure applies to the entire railroad rather than a single station.

What we know

What’s not confirmed

Walt Disney World has not announced a specific reason for the five-week closure. It is unclear if the downtime is related to the nearby construction, mechanical maintenance, or another project. Disney has also not confirmed whether the train will resume its shuttle mode or return to its full loop when it reopens.

What it means for your trip

If you are visiting Magic Kingdom in October, prepare to navigate the park entirely on foot. The railroad is typically a convenient way to rest your legs and bypass central park crowds when moving between the entrance and Fantasyland. Without this transportation option, you should expect slightly heavier pedestrian traffic on the main walkways and budget extra walking time into your daily plan.
