Slinky Dog Dash Hit by Repeated Outages, Reports Say

Live now: Slinky Dog Dash wait & status

Slinky Dog Dash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios went through a run of repeated breakdowns and multi-day closures between August 28 and September 5, according to reports published Sunday, September 6. The stretch reportedly included three consecutive days with the Toy Story Land coaster completely offline, plus several same-day shutdowns after brief restarts.

As of Sunday, September 6, Disney has not made any public statement about the outages or their cause, and there is no announced refurbishment. Ride status can change hour to hour, so check My Disney Experience before you build a morning around it.

On Thursday, September 3, the coaster reportedly began dispatching trains during Early Theme Park Entry, then suffered another fault and stayed closed for the rest of the day.

On Friday, September 4, the ride was reportedly still walled off at park opening with Cast Members turning guests away, before reopening around 11:15 a.m. at a posted 30-minute standby wait. Guests noted it was running with the work lights on — often a sign of maintenance or operational checks, though the reason was not publicly confirmed.

On Saturday, September 5, Slinky Dog Dash reportedly showed “Temporarily Closed” in My Disney Experience from late afternoon into early evening, then was back running by about 7:00 p.m.

What we know

What’s not confirmed

Disney has not announced a cause, a fix, or any scheduled downtime. The stalling near the second launch is a guest observation reported in coverage, not an official finding. Why the work lights were on has not been publicly explained, and there is no confirmation the underlying issue has been resolved.

What it means for your trip

If Slinky Dog Dash is your family’s must-do, treat it as a rope-drop target rather than an afternoon plan — recent behavior suggests it may not be reliable later in the day. Have a backup ready in the same park (Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway) so a closure doesn’t burn an hour of standing around.

If you hold a Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection for it and the ride is down when your window arrives, check My Disney Experience — Disney typically issues a flexible replacement entitlement when an attraction closes during your return time, and that’s handled in your own Disney app. SupaPark’s live status alerts flag the moment a ride goes down or comes back, which is the difference between walking to Toy Story Land and rerouting before you leave the last queue.

Also worth noting: on a day when a headliner is unstable, Toy Story Land waits shift onto Slinky’s neighbors. Expect Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania to run longer than usual while everyone waits out the closure.
