Olaf Draws!

Overview

Olaf Draws! is a hands-on drawing session inside The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, led by real Disney animators who walk you through fan-favorite characters. You watch the strokes, then try them yourself — a class, not a ride vehicle. It sits in the same corner of the park as the Sorcerer’s Hat and an indoor playground built from Mary Blair’s original Alice in Wonderland concept art.

Is it worth it?

Worth it when someone in the group actually wants to draw, or when you need a seated indoor break that is not another queue. The part you cannot get from a tutorial at home is the animator in the room, building the character in front of you and having you follow along.

Skip it on a tight Hollywood Studios day if the headliners are still undone. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the park’s Lightning Lane Single Pass, and the other big draws will not pause while you finish a sketch. Very young kids who will not sit through a lesson get more from the Mary Blair Alice playground in the same area than from a chair and a pencil.

The catch is the trade. This spends real park time on a class, and the promise is fan-favorite characters in general — not a published list of exactly who is on the page that hour. Go in ready to draw whoever the animator is teaching.

Insider tips

• The session is the whole point: a Disney animator demonstrates, and you draw fan-favorite characters along with them. There is no best row, car, or side — this is not a ride — so the only “seat” that matters is one where you can see the animator’s page and how their hand moves. If the room is filling, do not sit behind someone tall.
• Treat the corner as one stop. The Sorcerer’s Hat and the indoor Mary Blair Alice in Wonderland playground are right there, so a kid who taps out of the lesson, or an adult who would rather look around, is not stranded while everyone else draws.
• Do not open the park day here. Spend the morning on Hollywood Studios headliners, with Rise of the Resistance first in line for Single Pass attention if that ride is a priority. Fit Olaf Draws! in as a midday indoor pause, once those are done or when the group needs out of the heat. Later in the day can work too when a session is still running — confirm it is operating before you route everyone across the park for it.
• Do not buy or spend a Lightning Lane around this. It is not a Single Pass attraction. Those are TRON Lightcycle / Run, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and Avatar Flight of Passage. Keep pass strategy on the rides, and drop into the drawing session when it is on.
• Single Rider and Rider Switch do not apply. If the group wants to split, one adult can stay with whoever is drawing and everyone else can keep moving, then meet back at the hat.
• Before you commit the detour, glance at how Hollywood Studios is actually running that day. A calm midday is when a sit-down lesson feels like a gift; a day that is already behind on the headliners is when you skip it.

Who can ride

This is not a ride, so coaster rules do not apply. Nothing in the current details sets a height minimum for Olaf Draws!, and there is no launch, drop, spinning, or 3D — motion sickness and ride intensity are not the issue.

Anyone who can sit through a short demonstration and hold a pencil can take part. Toddlers and kids who will not stay with a lesson will do better at the Mary Blair Alice playground beside it. Nothing about the session is scary in the dark-ride sense. The only mismatch is a guest who hates being asked to draw in front of other people — the format is follow-along, and there is no separate thrill to swap in for them.
