Disney Expands Wristband Pool Checks to Port Orleans Riverside

According to reports, Walt Disney World has expanded its wristband-enforced pool access policy to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. The move potentially ends the long-standing shared pool perk between the Riverside and French Quarter properties.
As of Friday, September 11, newly posted signage at the Riverside pool restricts use exclusively to Riverside guests. For years, guests booked at either side of the Port Orleans resort could freely use the pools at both properties. Earlier this year, cast members began checking MagicBands and issuing wristbands at French Quarter’s Doubloon Lagoon, but the initial signage still welcomed guests of the wider Port Orleans Resort. The new Riverside-specific restriction suggests that reciprocal access across the Sassagoula River is no longer permitted.
The wristband system is a straightforward fix to unauthorized pool hopping. Cast members station at the pool entrance, verify a guest’s resort reservation, and issue a wristband that grants access. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts was an early adopter of this checkpoint system due to its easy access from EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The system has since spread to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.
