Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace Closed Through Mid-December

Live now: Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace availability
Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will stay closed through mid-December, according to reports published Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The outdoor lounge had been targeting a late-October return, so the revised wording pushes it back roughly a month and a half.
As of Tuesday, October 27, the terrace remains closed, and refurbishment work at the Great Ceremonial House is still the stated reason. Disney’s updated description says the open-air lounge is temporarily closed through mid-December because of that work.
The terrace closed in April, when scaffolding went up around the Great Ceremonial House. The original window ran from mid-April through late June; that passed without a reopening, and a late-October target was set on July 14. Mid-December is the third date attached to it, and by then the terrace will have been closed for roughly eight months.
The indoor Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto has stayed open through all of it. Separately, crews are still reworking the resort’s front entrance roadway, which is now expected to run into early 2027, and guests are being asked to allow extra travel time arriving at and leaving the resort. Disney says crews will try to limit daytime disruption.
What we know
Updated 10:36 AM ET, Tuesday, October 27 with new reporting.
- Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, the indoor bar — open throughout the terrace closure
- Previous targets — mid-April through late June, then late October (set July 14), now mid-December
- Polynesian front entrance roadway reconfiguration — expected to continue into early 2027
- Resort arrivals and departures — extra travel time requested while road work continues
- Original reopening target — late June 2026.
- First extension — through late October 2026.
- Second extension — reported Tuesday, October 27, 2026; the new reopening date was not stated in the coverage available.
- The work driving the closure is on the Great Ceremonial House, the resort’s central building, not on the lounge alone.
What’s not confirmed
No exact reopening day in December has been given — “mid-December” is the whole commitment. Disney has not said whether the Great Ceremonial House work finishes alongside the terrace, and has not confirmed that this date will hold after two previous ones slipped.
What it means for your trip
- If you have a Polynesian stay before mid-December, plan on the Grog Grotto as your only Trader Sam’s option. It’s indoors, much smaller than the terrace, and it uses a virtual queue when demand spikes — join it as soon as you arrive at the resort rather than after dinner.
- Neither Trader Sam’s space takes Advance Dining Reservations, so there is nothing to book and nothing to cancel. Build it in as a walk-up, not a fixed time slot.
- Traveling during holiday weeks in December? Treat the terrace as a maybe, not a plan. Two targets have already moved, so don’t anchor a celebration night on it.
- Driving or taking a rideshare to the Poly for a Kona Cafe or 'Ohana reservation: leave 15–20 extra minutes for the entrance roadway work, or take the monorail from Magic Kingdom instead and skip the road entirely.
- Want a hard-to-get Polynesian table for that trip? SupaPark’s dining Drop Watch pings you when one frees up from a cancellation, and you book it in My Disney Experience.
