Hollywood Studios Dec 19–23: Your Hour-by-Hour Crowd Plan

Published October 29, 2026

Hollywood Studios will be packed from December 19 to 23. SupaPark’s crowd forecast (as of Oct 29) puts it at an average of 9.8 out of 10 for those five days, with December 20 hitting 10/10. That doesn’t mean your day is ruined. It means the clock matters more than which day you pick.

Here’s the number to plan around: over the last 30 days (Sep 30–Oct 28), SupaPark’s wait data shows the median posted wait across Hollywood Studios’ five busiest rides was 25 minutes at 8 AM and 53 minutes at 11 AM. That’s more than double in three hours. This is the recent daily pattern, not a measurement of December. Holiday crowds will push every number higher, but the shape of the day usually stays the same: mornings are cheap, late morning through mid-afternoon is expensive, and evenings get easier again.

There’s no easy park this week, so don’t go looking for one

The whole resort is forecast to be at capacity. SupaPark’s Dec 19–23 forecast:

The gap between the busiest and lightest park is less than one point. Hopping parks to escape the crowds won’t save you much this week. A better plan is to pick your Studios day, guard the first two hours, and plan the middle of the day so you’re not standing in standby at noon.

One thing to watch: Magic Kingdom closes early to day guests on December 20 and 22 for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. On those evenings, guests who leave Magic Kingdom may end up at other parks, though how many go to the Studios is hard to predict. December 20 is already the Studios’ 10/10 peak. If you have a choice, I’d put your Studios day on a different date.

The first two hours are worth more than any purchase

The recent ride-level data shows how much the morning is worth:

If you’re staying on-site, use Early Theme Park Entry. Being at the front of the early crowd is what makes rope drop work. Showing up ten minutes before official opening just puts you at the back of the line everyone else read about. Clear security, sort out the stroller and the bathroom before the gates open, and walk straight to your first ride without stopping.

Rise and Slinky: pay for one, rope drop the other

This is the decision that matters most on a Studios day. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is Lightning Lane Single Pass. Lightning Lane Multi Pass doesn’t cover it, no matter how early you book. Slinky Dog Dash is Multi Pass. Don’t plan to get both through standby on a 10/10 week. Pick one to cover with a paid booking and rope drop the other:

Don’t spend your best free morning standing in line for a ride you already paid to skip. If Rise is down at opening, don’t wait around. Go to Slinky, Tower of Terror, or Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and check back later. When Rise does reopen, don’t rush in. A crowd that’s been waiting for the reopening tends to flood the line fast.

How Multi Pass booking works: you buy it per day and book selections in advance. Disney resort guests can book starting 7 days before arrival, and off-site guests starting 3 days before, at 7:00 AM Eastern. For a Dec 19 arrival, on-site guests can book on Dec 12. After you use a selection (or its window passes), you book the next one. Keep adding more all day. Prices vary by date, so check before you buy.

Three free shortcuts most people skip

Single rider on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. If your group doesn’t mind splitting up, the single rider line is often a fraction of the standby wait and costs nothing. Use it from late morning on, when standby is near its 55-minute high.

The 8:55 trick. You can join any standby line right up until the official closing time. If the park closes at 9, get in line at 8:55. The posted wait may stay high to discourage late arrivals, but the real wait is usually much shorter. With Slinky’s best recent hour at 9 PM, closing the park in Toy Story Land is often a good move.

The evening slowdown. The recent five-ride median dropped to 33 minutes at 8 PM, compared with 48 at 5 PM. If you rope dropped, take a break mid-afternoon and come back for the last few hours. That’s when the park gets easier again.

Use the expensive middle of the day for things that don’t need a line

From 11 AM to around 2 PM, the recent median stayed above 50 minutes (53 at 11 AM, 51 at 2 PM). That’s when to eat, use your Multi Pass bookings, and see shows. Don’t spend those hours in standby.

Advance Dining Reservations open 60 days ahead at 6:00 AM Eastern in My Disney Experience. For Dec 19–23, that window is already open, so popular tables may be booked. People do cancel, though, especially in the last few days before a holiday trip. SupaPark’s Drop Watch alerts you when a table you want opens up, and then you book it yourself in My Disney Experience. It works by email on the free plan. Push alerts on Silver and Gold matter more when a table might only stay open for a few minutes.

If you get Sci-Fi Dine-In, use the time sitting down to check live waits and plan your next move. Then grab a frozen drink before you get in Slinky’s long, sunny line, not after you’re already hot.

Hollywood Studios has sometimes run separately ticketed evening events during the holidays. If one is on your dates, check the park hours for your day. Also do the math: ride-focused After Hours events are usually a better deal than holiday parties if what you want is more rides. A rope drop, a single rider lap, and an 8:55 standby line give you much of the same benefit for free. SupaPark’s best-time-to-ride forecaster at supapark.com shows when each Studios ride usually has its shortest wait, so you can tell whether you’d be paying for a short line you could get anyway.

The takeaway

This will be one of the busiest weeks of the year at every park, so you can’t avoid the crowds by picking a different park. Use the hours instead: rope drop hard, pay for either Rise or Slinky (not both), use single rider on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, eat during the midday peak, and finish your night in Toy Story Land.

Frequently Asked Questions

How crowded will Hollywood Studios be December 19–23, 2026?

Very. As of Oct 29, SupaPark’s forecast puts Hollywood Studios at an average of 9.8 out of 10 for Dec 19–23, with December 20 hitting 10/10.

Which Disney World park is least crowded the week before Christmas 2026?

Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom tie for lightest at a 9.2/10 average in SupaPark’s forecast, but every park is above 9. Your timing during the day matters more than which park you pick.

Does Lightning Lane Multi Pass include Rise of the Resistance?

No. Rise of the Resistance is a Lightning Lane Single Pass ride that you buy separately. The usual approach is to pay for either Rise or Slinky Dog Dash and rope drop the other.

What’s the best time to ride Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood Studios?

Over the last 30 days, SupaPark measured Slinky Dog Dash’s shortest median wait at 35 minutes at 9 PM and its longest at 70 minutes at 12 PM. Late evening or rope drop are your best standby times.

Is there a way to skip the line on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster without paying?

Yes. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has a single rider line, which is often much shorter than standby if your group can ride separately. Rope drop works too: its recent median wait was 15 minutes at 8 AM.
