Oaxacan Wood Carving Shop Closes at EPCOT Mexico
Published September 8, 2026 · Updated September 30, 2026
The Oaxacan Wood Carving shop inside the Mexico Pavilion’s Plaza de los Amigos marketplace at EPCOT has closed permanently, ending a run of several decades selling handmade wooden figures. According to reports, the shop’s last day was August 31, with remaining stock marked down 50% ahead of the closure.
As of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Disney has not announced what will take over the space.
Two more changes have shuffled the pavilion in recent weeks, both reported rather than officially announced. Mariachi Cobre, which has performed traditional Mexican folk music at EPCOT since 1982, has moved its sets indoors — into the pyramid space that Kidcot previously occupied — after years of performing outdoors near La Cantina de San Angel. Sets typically run about 25 minutes, with showtimes listed in the My Disney Experience app.
Kidcot has not gone away. Its old station was dismantled, and the activity now sits directly inside the pyramid near the entrance, a more visible spot than before.
On the bigger rumor: Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, the boat ride beneath the pyramid, has been tipped for a Coco overhaul on and off since before the film’s 2017 release, with talk resurfacing around the ride’s lengthy 2025 refurbishment. Disney has never announced any such project. The first Coco attraction Disney has announced is at Disney California Adventure, revealed in 2024, with construction beginning in 2026.
What we know
- Oaxacan Wood Carving (Plaza de los Amigos, Mexico Pavilion) — permanently closed after August 31; merchandise was 50% off beforehand.
- Mariachi Cobre — now performs inside the pyramid, in the former Kidcot space, instead of outdoors near La Cantina de San Angel.
- Kidcot Fun Stop (Mexico) — relocated to just inside the pyramid entrance; previous station dismantled.
- Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros — still operating; no Coco replacement announced.
What’s not confirmed
Disney has not said what replaces the Oaxacan Wood Carving space, whether any further retail changes are coming to Plaza de los Amigos, or whether Mariachi Cobre’s indoor location is permanent or temporary. Disney has also never announced a Coco retheme at EPCOT — reports say the idea was explored and did not advance, partly because the pavilion’s tight footprint and small Gran Fiesta Tour queue would struggle with the crowds a Coco attraction would draw.
What it means for your trip
- If you buy alebrijes on every trip, that specific shop is gone — plan to browse the rest of Plaza de los Amigos instead and don’t build a shopping stop around it.
- Check Mariachi Cobre showtimes in My Disney Experience before you head over. An indoor set changes how you catch it: you’ll want to be inside the pyramid a few minutes early rather than drifting past the lagoon-side stage.
- Families working the Kidcot circuit around World Showcase now get Mexico’s station right at the entrance, which makes it a faster in-and-out — useful if you’re pairing it with a mid-afternoon break in the pyramid’s air conditioning.
- Gran Fiesta Tour is unchanged and still one of the most reliable low-wait, high-value rides in the park on a hot afternoon. Ride it while it’s the version you know.
