Affection Section is Animal Kingdom’s hands-on petting area at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, reached by taking the Wildlife Express Train from Harambe. It’s a calm, slower-paced stop where you can get close to domesticated animals like goats and other friendly barnyard-style residents, with Cast Members nearby to help guide the experience.

Is it worth it?

Worth it if your group needs a breather, has animal-loving kids, or wants something gentler than another queue-and-ride sprint. The standout is that it feels genuinely different from the rest of Animal Kingdom: quieter, tactile, and more personal than watching animals from a path or safari vehicle.

The catch is the time commitment. Because Affection Section sits at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, you’re not just popping in for two minutes — you need to budget time for the train ride there and back. If you’re trying to maximize headliners like Avatar Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and Na’vi River Journey in one tight day, this is an easy skip. If you have a full Animal Kingdom day or kids who would rather meet animals than rush to another screen-based attraction, it can be a surprisingly smart reset.

• There is no ride vehicle, seat, row, or on-ride hidden-detail trick here — the “secret” is logistical: don’t treat Affection Section like a quick walkthrough near the front of the park. It requires the Wildlife Express Train, so group it with the rest of Rafiki’s Planet Watch instead of trying to squeeze it between far-apart rides.
• Go when your group is fading. This is a good decompression stop after a busy morning, especially for younger kids who need something slower and less overstimulating.

There is no height requirement and no thrill intensity. Affection Section is appropriate for most ages, including toddlers and cautious kids, because it is a gentle animal-interaction area rather than a ride.

Motion sickness is not an issue at the attraction itself, though you do take the Wildlife Express Train to reach Rafiki’s Planet Watch. The main kid-specific consideration is comfort around live animals: some children love the close contact, while others may prefer to watch from a little distance at first.
