Overview
Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas meet guests at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom, with Jack dressed in his “Sandy Claws” Santa look. This is a party-only meet: you need a separate party ticket, and it runs only on select party nights during the holiday season. The location can change from year to year, so check the party map for the current spot.
Is it worth it?
Worth it if Jack and Sally are your group’s must-do. Seeing Jack as Santa is a party exclusive, and Nightmare fans tend to rank it near the top of the night. Because it fits the party’s theme so well, it usually draws one of the party’s longer character lines.
The catch is the trade-off. Party nights are short and packed with parades, fireworks, free treats and other party-only characters. An hour in this line can cost you a parade viewing spot or several rides with low party-night waits. Decide before you arrive whether this meet is worth that.
Skip it if your group is lukewarm on Nightmare, you have toddlers who get spooked by skeleton faces, or your main goal is rides and entertainment. Easier party meets will give you more photos for your time.
Insider tips
- Get a party map the moment you scan in. The map lists which characters are meeting, where, and when. Locations and lineups often change between years, so even regulars shouldn’t count on last year’s spot.
- Use the time before 7 PM. Party tickets usually let you into Magic Kingdom from 4 PM, and you’ll get your party wristband at entry. If you’re already in the park that day, a Cast Member can point you to a wristband pickup spot. Use the early hours to find the meet location and see how the line looks before the party officially starts.
- Think twice about arriving right at 4 PM. The 4 PM entry line can be one of the worst of the night: tightly packed, hot, and short on water. Showing up around 4:15 PM, once the line is moving, is often less miserable. You give up being first in, so decide whether this meet is worth it.
- Pick a lane early or late. One option is to get in line as soon as the meet opens. The other is to wait for parades and fireworks, when many guests leave lines for their viewing spots. Wandering over in the middle of the party is usually the worst choice.
- Ask about line closing time. Party character lines often close before the party ends so everyone in line gets through. If you’re planning to come late, check the closing time with a Cast Member so you aren’t turned away.
- Bring water and plan around the heat. Florida evenings can stay warm, and costumes plus long lines add up. Hydrate before you join a long wait.
- Have your photo plan ready. Decide your poses and who’s holding the phone before you reach the front. Jack and Sally tend to play up the spooky-meets-holiday mix, so be ready for fun reaction shots.
- Lightning Lane doesn’t help here. Party character meets don’t use Lightning Lane, so the only ways to save time are good timing and planning around the party map.
Who can ride
There’s no height requirement. It’s a character meet, so everyone in your group can join, including babies in arms. There’s no motion and nothing physically intense.
The scare factor is the thing to think about. Jack is a tall skeleton, and some toddlers and preschoolers find him unsettling even in his Santa suit. Sally’s stitched rag-doll look can also catch younger kids off guard. If your child is unsure about spooky characters, watch Jack and Sally interact with other families from the line first. Bow out if your child seems nervous, since a long wait that ends in a meltdown isn’t worth it.
Stamina matters more than height. Party nights run late and the lines can be long, so consider tired kids and anyone who has trouble standing for a long time.
