Animal Kingdom Crowds Dec 12–13, 2026: Go Sunday
Published October 29, 2026
As of Oct 29, SupaPark forecasts Animal Kingdom at 6.5/10 for Dec 12–13: 7/10 on Saturday and about 6/10 on Sunday, Dec 13. Sunday is the better day, and time of day will matter even more than which day you pick. SupaPark’s wait data shows Kilimanjaro Safaris at a 10-minute median posted wait at 3 PM and 55 minutes at 10 AM. Same ride, a 45-minute difference in the wait, just from when you show up.
One caveat up front: those hourly numbers come from SupaPark’s measurements over the last 30 days (Sep 30–Oct 28). They aren’t readings from December 12–13. The crowd forecast is the December-specific piece. Here’s how to use both.
The forecast: Animal Kingdom is mid-pack, and Sunday looks lighter
As of Oct 29, SupaPark’s crowd forecast for Dec 12–13 looks like this:
- EPCOT: averages 9.0/10, peaking at 9/10 on Saturday, Dec 12. It’s the busiest park of the weekend by a wide margin.
- Hollywood Studios: averages 7.0/10, peaking at 7/10 on Dec 12.
- Animal Kingdom: averages 6.5/10, peaking at 7/10 on Dec 12.
- Magic Kingdom: averages 6.5/10, peaking at 7/10 on Dec 12. SupaPark’s forecast rates it the lightest overall.
The pattern is consistent: every park peaks on Saturday. Animal Kingdom averages 6.5 and hits 7 on Saturday, which puts Sunday, Dec 13 at about 6/10.
The move: if your dates are flexible, do Animal Kingdom on Sunday, Dec 13. Use Saturday for a park where you’ll lean harder on Lightning Lane, and keep away from EPCOT on both days unless it’s a must.
One more Sunday detail: Magic Kingdom hosts Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on Dec 13, and the park closes early to day guests. If you have regular tickets and were thinking about Magic Kingdom that Sunday, you’ll get a shorter evening there. That’s one more reason to put Animal Kingdom on Sunday and Magic Kingdom on Saturday.
The hourly pattern: Animal Kingdom peaks at 11 AM and empties out early
Across the park’s five busiest rides, SupaPark’s recent median posted waits look like this:
- 9 AM: 28 min
- 11 AM: 40 min (the daily high)
- 2 PM: 30 min
- 5 PM: 15 min
- 6 PM: 10 min (the daily low)
Most people’s instincts have this backwards. They hit Animal Kingdom early and leave by mid-afternoon. That crowd leaving is exactly why the late afternoon gets so quiet. By 5 PM, the busiest rides here have recently been posting less than half their 11 AM waits.
The catch is park hours. Animal Kingdom often closes earlier than the other three parks, and December days are short. Check that day’s hours before you plan around the evening. If the park is open until 6 PM or later, that last stretch can be the best ride time of the day.
Ride order that follows the data
Go to Na’vi River Journey first. SupaPark measured a 15-minute median at 8 AM versus 45 minutes at 11 AM. It’s a gentle boat ride that almost every family wants, and its line builds fast. Ride it in the first hour, before the 11 AM peak. Avatar Flight of Passage is the park’s Lightning Lane Single Pass ride, so if it’s a priority and you aren’t buying Single Pass, the opening rush is also your best shot at a reasonable standby wait.
Don’t do Kilimanjaro Safaris mid-morning. Mid-morning is the classic mistake. Recently it has posted a 55-minute median at 10 AM, its worst hour, and 10 minutes at 3 PM, its best. Many guests believe the animals are more active in the morning, and some days that’s true. But a 45-minute difference is a lot of time for maybe slightly livelier giraffes. Also keep the light in mind: in mid-December, a late-afternoon safari can run into dusk. Around 3 PM is a good compromise between short lines and decent light.
Save Lightning Lane Multi Pass for the 11 AM peak. You don’t need a Lightning Lane for a ride that will be close to walk-on by mid-afternoon. Time your Multi Pass selections for 10–11 AM, when standby is at its worst. Na’vi River Journey recently peaked at 45 minutes at 11 AM, so a 10–11 AM Multi Pass selection there makes sense if you miss the first-hour ride. Don’t spend a selection on Kilimanjaro Safaris, which dropped to 10 minutes by 3 PM. Remember how Multi Pass works: you make selections in advance (7 days out for on-site guests, 3 days for off-site, starting at 7:00 AM Eastern), then book the next one each time you use one.
Spend the 11 AM peak eating lunch
Mid-morning is when lines peak, so plan to be off the rides for part of it. Tusker House at lunch works well for families here. It’s a seated, air-conditioned break during the park’s busiest window. Because Animal Kingdom empties early, you come back out to shorter lines instead of longer ones.
Advance Dining Reservations open 60 days before arrival at 6:00 AM Eastern in My Disney Experience. That window opened in mid-October for these dates, so popular weekend lunch times may already be gone. Character meals see a lot of cancellations as families change plans, though, and open times can show up at any hour. SupaPark’s Drop Watch watches for those openings and alerts you the moment one appears. Then you book it yourself in My Disney Experience. On the free plan, Drop Watch alerts arrive by email.
If you only have Saturday
Saturday is still workable. A 7/10 at Animal Kingdom is far easier than a 9/10 at EPCOT. Use the same plan, just stricter:
- Be at the gate before opening and ride Na’vi River Journey first.
- Keep the 10–11 AM window for a meal, a show, or a Lightning Lane return, not a standby line.
- Do Safaris in the afternoon.
- Stay through the late-afternoon drop if park hours allow, and spend it re-riding favorites.
The one thing to remember
At Animal Kingdom, time of day matters more than the crowd score. Pick Sunday, Dec 13 if you can, ride Na’vi River Journey first, stay off the rides around 11 AM, and do Safaris in the afternoon instead of mid-morning. Patterns can change by December, so check live waits on the day. SupaPark’s best-time forecaster and live alerts at supapark.com can tell you when a ride drops to a short wait.
