The Smartest Time to Ride Rise of the Resistance (Hint: It’s Not First Thing)
Published June 28, 2026 · Updated October 12, 2026
Everyone wants to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. It is the undeniable crown jewel of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But if you follow the conventional wisdom on when to ride it, you are probably going to sabotage your entire morning.
Most casual planners assume that the best way to beat a two-hour standby wait is to arrive at the park before it opens and sprint straight to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Here is what I’d actually do, and why rope-dropping Rise of the Resistance is a massive trap.
The Rope-Drop Trap
If you have Early Theme Park Entry (which gets Disney resort guests in 30 minutes early), those first moments of the day are the most valuable, high-leverage minutes of your entire vacation.
The instinct is to burn them on Rise of the Resistance. Don’t do it.
Rise is a notoriously temperamental, highly complex attraction. It is very common for the ride to experience delayed openings, sometimes sitting completely closed from park open until around noon. If you join the herd sprinting to Galaxy’s Edge first thing, you risk burning your golden half-hour standing on the pavement in front of a closed ride. Even if it is running, the line builds so instantly that you’ll still wait an hour, and by the time you’re off, the rest of the park is swamped.
The smarter morning play: Head straight to Toy Story Land for Slinky Dog Dash. Slinky has quietly become one of the most in-demand Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections in the park. Knocking it out via standby first thing in the morning frees you up to book other Lightning Lanes, and it rarely breaks down at opening.
The Actual Best Times to Ride Rise
If you aren’t paying to skip the line with a Lightning Lane Single Pass, you need to time your standby wait strategically.
1. The End-of-Night Drop The single best time to get in line for Rise of the Resistance is in the final hour before Disney’s Hollywood Studios closes. Wait times plummet as families with exhausted kids leave for the night or head to the Fantasmic! amphitheater.
Here is the golden rule of Disney World: as long as you tap your MagicBand or phone at the ride entrance exactly one minute before the park officially closes, you are guaranteed to ride. Disney will not kick you out of the queue. If the park closes at 9:00 PM, hop in line at 8:45 PM. The posted wait time might still say 60 minutes, but your actual wait will almost certainly be a fraction of that.
2. The Midday Lull If you don’t want to wait until dark, look for the midday meal dip. Crowds often shift toward dining reservations between 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM. While the wait won’t drop to a walk-on, it frequently dips from its morning peak.
This is exactly where SupaPark’s best-time forecaster comes in. You can check the historical wait patterns for Rise on the exact day of your visit to see precisely when the line naturally hollows out. And if you have SupaPark’s live alerts turned on, we’ll ping you the second the wait time unexpectedly craters.
Is the Lightning Lane Single Pass Worth It?
Rise of the Resistance is not included in the standard Lightning Lane Multi Pass. If you want to skip the line, you have to buy it à la carte as a Lightning Lane Single Pass.
Is it worth the extra cash? Yes, if you only have one day at Hollywood Studios and absolutely cannot risk missing it. Because the ride is prone to breaking down throughout the day, having a booked return window offers peace of mind. If the ride breaks down during your Lightning Lane window, Disney typically converts your pass into an Experience Redemption that you can use to skip the line anytime later that day once it reopens.
The One Thing to Remember
Never lead your Hollywood Studios day with Rise of the Resistance. Anchor your morning around reliable attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, and save Rise for the very end of the night when the crowds thin out—or buy the Single Pass to remove the stress entirely.
