Animal Kingdom Christmas Eve 2026 Crowds: Best Times to Ride
Published October 29, 2026
Every Disney World park is forecast to be packed on Christmas Eve. As of Oct 29, SupaPark’s crowd forecast puts all four parks at 10/10 for December 24, 2026, and Animal Kingdom is the busiest of the four. So skip the hunt for a quiet park. The thing to plan around at Animal Kingdom is the clock.
Here’s the number that matters most. Over the last 30 days (Sep 30–Oct 28), SupaPark’s wait data shows Kilimanjaro Safaris had a median posted wait of 54 minutes at 10 AM and 10 minutes at 3 PM. Same ride, same month, about five times the wait. Most families head for the Safari right after they walk in, and that’s exactly when its line is longest.
One caveat before you build a plan on these numbers: they show the park’s recent daily pattern, not a measurement of Christmas Eve. Holiday waits will probably run higher across the board. Daily patterns usually hold their shape on peak days, though, and Animal Kingdom’s pattern is very lopsided.
The shape of an Animal Kingdom day
Across Animal Kingdom’s five busiest rides, SupaPark’s 30-day data shows a median posted wait of:
- 9 AM: 28 min
- 11 AM: 40 min (the daily peak)
- 2 PM: 30 min
- 5 PM: 15 min
- 6 PM: 10 min (the daily low)
The other three parks look different. At EPCOT, waits top out at 63 minutes around 4 PM. At Magic Kingdom, they top out at 45 minutes around 4 PM. At Animal Kingdom, waits peak in the late morning and then fall off steadily through the afternoon. In recent weeks, waits have peaked by late morning and eased through the afternoon. Many guests seem to do their big rides early and leave.
That changes the plan. At most parks, you rope drop and then hang on through a rough afternoon. At Animal Kingdom, you rope drop the one ride that’s worst in the morning, take it easy during the 11 AM peak, and save the rest for late afternoon.
Rope drop Na’vi River Journey, not the Safari
Na’vi River Journey is the ride to hit first. SupaPark’s data shows its median wait at 15 minutes at 8 AM vs 45 minutes at 11 AM. It’s a slow-loading boat ride, and once the line builds it tends to stay long. That makes it the best early-morning ride in the park.
Avatar Flight of Passage is the park’s Lightning Lane Single Pass ride, so you’d buy it separately. If it’s your group’s top priority, either pay for the Single Pass or get in its line right at opening. Check its live wait in SupaPark at opening before you commit.
Rope drop tactics that matter more on a 10/10 day:
- Arrive well before the posted opening time. Disney often lets guests in before the official open, and on peak days entry lines and bag check can back up, so build in a buffer. If you’re staying at a Disney resort, Early Theme Park Entry gets you in ahead of everyone else, so use it.
- Don’t place a Mobile Order during rope drop. Pack a granola bar and eat it in line. Breakfast can wait until the 11 AM peak, when standing in lines is a poor use of time anyway.
- Be ready to switch. If Pandora’s lines are already long when you walk in, change course right away and head to the other side of the park. Clinging to the plan on Christmas Eve can cost you an hour.
Do the Safari in the afternoon
The Safari’s best hour is 3 PM (10 min) and its worst is 10 AM (54 min). Of all the Animal Kingdom data, that gap is the most useful thing to plan around. Here’s the trade-off: some guests prefer an early Safari because animals can be more active in the cooler morning. In December, though, afternoons are usually mild, and the animals are often still out. You’d be trading a little extra activity for about 45 minutes of your day back.
The move: hold your Safari for mid-afternoon. If you have Lightning Lane Multi Pass, don’t spend an early selection on the Safari. Use it on a ride that stays long all day.
How to spend the 11 AM peak
Waits across the busiest rides hit 40 minutes around 11 AM, and on Christmas Eve they’ll probably run higher. Spend those hours on things that don’t need a ride queue:
- Shows and walking trails. Walk Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail or Maharajah Jungle Trek, or catch a show like Festival of the Lion King. Check the Dec 24 showtimes in My Disney Experience. None of these depend on posted ride waits.
- An early lunch. Eat before the noon rush hits the counter-service spots. Lunch from 10:45 to 11:15 often goes much faster than lunch at 12:30.
- Lightning Lane return times. Book your Multi Pass selections ahead of time so they land in the late-morning window when standby lines are longest.
Lightning Lane on Christmas Eve
Lightning Lane Multi Pass is bought per day, and you book your selections in advance. Disney resort guests can book starting 7 days before arrival, off-site guests 3 days before, with the window opening at 7:00 AM Eastern. After you use a selection, you add the next one in My Disney Experience. On a 10/10 holiday, the most popular return times probably go fast, so don’t wait until the morning of.
Whether it’s worth paying for depends on your plan. Animal Kingdom’s waits drop off in the afternoon, so a group that rope drops and stays late can do well without it. A group that arrives at 10 AM and leaves by 3 PM is in the park during exactly the worst hours, and that’s when Multi Pass earns its cost.
If you skip it, or sold-out times are what’s stopping you, SupaPark watches Lightning Lane refills and alerts you when a selection opens up. You then book it yourself in My Disney Experience.
Should you stay late?
The 30-day data shows the park’s lowest waits right around 6 PM (10 min). Animal Kingdom usually closes earlier than the other parks, and holiday hours vary, so check Dec 24 hours as the date gets closer. If the park is still open at 5–6 PM, that’s your best stretch for re-riding favorites or catching anything you missed.
Switching parks probably won’t save you much. All four average 10.0/10, and Magic Kingdom is only slightly lighter. If you’re thinking about an evening hop, know that EPCOT and Hollywood Studios tend to stay busy into the evening. Hollywood Studios’ recent median was still 33 minutes at 8 PM.
Let the alerts do the watching
On a day this crowded, you won’t have time to keep refreshing wait times. SupaPark’s best-time forecaster shows when each ride usually has its shortest line, and wait-drop alerts tell you when a ride you’re watching drops to a short wait. The free plan includes alerts by email, and paid plans add instant push notifications. SupaPark is free at supapark.com and on iPhone and Android.
The takeaway
At Animal Kingdom, the late morning is the worst time to ride, so don’t spend it in line. Rope drop Na’vi River Journey, plan shows and an early lunch around 11 AM, ride the Safari mid-afternoon, and stay into the late afternoon if the park is open.

What should I ride first at Animal Kingdom on Christmas Eve?
Na’vi River Journey is the strongest standby rope-drop pick, with a recent median wait of 15 minutes at 8 AM vs 45 minutes at 11 AM. For Avatar Flight of Passage, consider Lightning Lane Single Pass.
Is Lightning Lane Multi Pass worth it at Animal Kingdom on Dec 24?
