Big 2027 Openings May Miss Early-Year Trips
Published October 1, 2026
Walt Disney World’s largest 2027 additions — the Tropical Americas expansion at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the Monsters, Inc.-themed Monstropolis land — are not expected to be open at the start of the year, according to reports published Thursday, October 1, 2026. That leaves guests holding January through April 2027 trips deciding whether to keep their dates or move them later, reportedly without a firm opening window to plan around.
As of Thursday, October 1, 2026, Disney has not published opening dates for either project beyond the stated 2027 timeframe, so any early-2027 trip is being planned without a confirmed answer.
The Animal Kingdom expansion, Pueblo Esperanza, replaces the former DinoLand U.S.A. area. It is reported to include Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, set inside the Madrigal Casita and built around Antonio’s ability to talk to animals, with dozens of animal Audio-Animatronics and no height requirement; Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, which replaces DINOSAUR and sends Indy into a South American temple and toward the Mayan underworld; and a carousel, El Carrusel de los Animalitos.
Monstropolis is reportedly opening in phases, and its headline door-vault coaster is not expected to debut with the land’s initial version. That coaster is described as using Disney’s first suspended ride system, lifting riders about 40 feet in roughly four seconds. Practically, that means a later 2027 trip may still only get you part of the land.
Separately, Magic Kingdom’s Carousel of Progress closed in July 2026 for an extensive reworking. Reported plans for the returning show include a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic in the pre-show and redesigned scenes.
What we know
- Pueblo Esperanza (Disney’s Animal Kingdom) — Tropical Americas expansion replacing DinoLand U.S.A., scheduled for 2027; no specific opening date announced.
- Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto — reportedly no height requirement, with dozens of animal Audio-Animatronics.
- Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent — replaces DINOSAUR; no opening date announced.
- Monstropolis — reportedly opening in phases in 2027, with its suspended-coaster headliner coming after the initial opening.
- Carousel of Progress (Magic Kingdom) — closed since July 2026 for refurbishment; no reopening date announced.
What’s not confirmed
Disney has not confirmed opening dates for Pueblo Esperanza, either of its attractions, Monstropolis, or the Monstropolis coaster, and has not said which parts of Monstropolis open in which phase. No reopening date for Carousel of Progress has been announced. Disney has also not announced any change to its booking or cancellation terms tied to these projects — nothing here forces anyone to cancel.
What it means for your trip
- If you visit Disney World often, keep your early-2027 dates. January through April typically brings lower crowds and better weather than summer, and you can come back for the new lands once they’re actually open and past the opening-crowd crush.
- If this is your one big trip for years, a later 2027 date is the stronger bet — but understand you’re buying a partial Monstropolis unless you wait well past its first phase.
- Don’t cancel before you price the alternative. Later 2027 dates may cost more, and summer heat plus higher crowds is a real trade-off against two new attractions.
- Whatever you choose, book Advance Dining Reservations at 60 days out at 6:00 AM Eastern; a date change resets that clock. SupaPark’s dining Drop Watch can ping you when a table you missed frees up, so you book it in My Disney Experience.
