Disney World Closures Include Railroad, Muppets Areas

Published October 10, 2026 · Updated October 12, 2026

According to reports, Walt Disney World construction and closure updates were detailed Saturday, October 10, covering work across Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, Disney Springs, and Disney resort projects. As of Saturday, October 10, the most time-sensitive item is the Walt Disney World Railroad, which reportedly remains temporarily closed with a listed reopening date of October 30.

Reports say the Walt Disney World Railroad closed September 28 for reasons Disney has not released. When it returns, it is expected to run only between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland because the Frontierland station remains unavailable during nearby construction tied to Villains Land and Piston Peak.

Magic Kingdom’s Carousel of Progress has been closed since July 6 for a major refurbishment, with work reportedly including updated scenes and a new Walt Disney animatronic at the opening. The attraction is currently expected to reopen in 2027, but no specific reopening date has been announced.

Several larger closures remain tied to future lands. Rivers of America, including the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island, permanently closed July 7, 2025, for the planned Piston Peak Cars area. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo closed June 8, 2025, while Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano has been closed since May 11, 2025, as work continues around the future Monsters, Inc. area.

Reports also noted new activity elsewhere, including additional EPCOT Food & Wine Festival booths, The Diamond Horseshoe operating in a new pop-up restaurant format, bookings opening for Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge, and a new store opening at Disney Springs.

What we know

What’s not confirmed

Disney has not released the reason for the Walt Disney World Railroad’s temporary closure. Disney has also not announced an exact reopening date for Carousel of Progress or an opening date for the Piston Peak Cars area.

What it means for your trip

If Magic Kingdom is your priority, treat the Railroad as unavailable until you see it operating in the park or in the app. Do not build your day around using the train to cross the park, especially with the Frontierland station still affected.

For Hollywood Studios, the old Muppets Courtyard area is not a flexible filler zone right now, so plan your downtime elsewhere instead of assuming you can duck into Muppet*Vision 3D or PizzeRizzo. At Magic Kingdom, the west side of the park may feel more disrupted around the former Rivers of America area, so give yourself extra walking time between Liberty Square, Frontierland, and nearby attractions.

SupaPark can help here by watching live ride status and waits, so you are not guessing when closures, reopenings, or sudden downtime shift the best next move.
