Disney World Railroad, Carousel of Progress Closed in October
Published September 30, 2026
The Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom is closed as October begins, and Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland remains closed alongside it, according to reports published Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The railroad stopped running September 28 and is currently scheduled to return sometime in November 2026; Carousel of Progress has been down since July 2026 for an extended update and reportedly is not expected to reopen until 2027.
As of Wednesday, September 30, that leaves Magic Kingdom guests without two longtime attractions for most or all of the month — including the railroad’s secondary role as transportation between areas of the park.
At EPCOT, two October dates break the usual pattern. The park is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. rather than 9 a.m. on October 23 and October 25, per the reports.
Over at Hollywood Studios, Alien Swirling Saucers picked up a new overlay. Lilypad, the frog-shaped smart tablet character from Toy Story 5, joined the attraction on September 25 as part of Lilypad’s Jams, DJing a soundtrack of remixed Toy Story songs and original tracks. Some of the Lilypad content is reportedly available without riding, including a doodle-guessing game, word puzzles, and “home videos” with Toy Story characters.
The Magic of Disney Animation area at Hollywood Studios is now operating in full, but reports note that hours and daily operations within the area can vary day to day rather than following one fixed schedule.

- Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress (Magic Kingdom) — closed since July 2026 for an update, reportedly not returning until 2027.
- EPCOT — scheduled 10 a.m. opening on October 23 and October 25 instead of 9 a.m.
- Alien Swirling Saucers (Hollywood Studios) — Lilypad’s Jams overlay with Lilypad from Toy Story 5 began September 25.
- Magic of Disney Animation (Hollywood Studios) — fully operating, but individual offerings’ hours vary by day.
What’s not confirmed
Disney has not announced an exact reopening date for the Walt Disney World Railroad beyond the November 2026 window, and has not given a specific 2027 return date for Carousel of Progress. Whether the Lilypad’s Jams overlay is permanent or limited-run has not been stated, and no day-by-day operating schedule for the Magic of Disney Animation area has been published. The source coverage was cut off mid-item, so the full seventh update in the reported list is not available.
What it means for your trip
- Build your October Magic Kingdom day on foot. With the railroad down, plan the Frontierland–Fantasyland walk into your timing, and pick a different indoor sit-down break — a show or a slower dark ride — if Carousel of Progress was your usual reset.
- Check your EPCOT date before you set an alarm. If you’re there October 23 or 25, a 10 a.m. open shifts your whole morning; treat Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections and any early breakfast plan accordingly.
- Don’t burn rope drop on Alien Swirling Saucers for the new overlay. Ride it in the evening or during show and meal windows when waits usually soften, and take a Lightning Lane only if the return time lines up with where you already are.
- Hit Magic of Disney Animation earlier in your Hollywood Studios day rather than last, since parts of it may not be operating at close. SupaPark’s live ride status and wait alerts can flag the railroad’s reopening the moment it comes back online.
