Kilimanjaro Safaris is Animal Kingdom’s signature open-air safari ride in Africa, sending you through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve in a large safari truck. It’s a roughly 22-minute ride past real animals like giraffes, elephants, rhinos, crocodiles, flamingos, and lions, with sightings changing from ride to ride. The road is intentionally bumpy, but the pace is slow and the thrill level is mild.

Is it worth it?

Yes — Kilimanjaro Safaris is one of Animal Kingdom’s must-do attractions, especially if you want something that feels specific to this park instead of another screen or coaster. It’s best for families, animal lovers, multigenerational groups, and anyone who wants a longer ride that actually gives you time to settle in.

The standout is that no two rides are exactly the same because the animals are real and their activity changes with the weather, time of day, and pure luck. The catch: the ride is long, outdoors, bumpy, and impossible to exit early, so guests with back, neck, hip, or recent surgery concerns should think carefully before boarding.

• Ask for a forward row if comfort matters. The front rows tend to feel less whippy than the very back of the truck, which helps if someone in your group is sensitive to jostling. This matters more than chasing a perfect view.
