Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a family-friendly trackless dark ride inside the Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You board Goofy’s train, roll into a Mickey and Minnie cartoon, and then the ride vehicles split off into a fast-moving mix of projection scenes, physical sets, music, and visual gags. It’s about 5 minutes long, a 2/5 thrill, and uses Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

Is it worth it?

Yes for most groups, especially families, Mickey fans, first-timers, and anyone who wants a clever indoor ride that does not require coaster bravery. The standout is the “you are inside the cartoon” staging: the ride is busy, colorful, funny, and more technically interesting than it looks from the outside.

The catch: it can feel visually chaotic for small kids because scenes change quickly and vehicles move independently. It is also not the best use of your very first Hollywood Studios move if you are trying to beat the biggest waits at Slinky Dog Dash, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, or Tower of Terror. Treat Runaway Railway as a high-priority family anchor, not necessarily the whole morning plan.

• Ask for the front row of your ride vehicle section if you have small kids. The front usually gives the cleanest sightline into the screens and physical sets, with fewer heads blocking Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and the quick scene changes. • Middle-to-front is better than the very back for a first ride. The back is still fun, but you may see other vehicles react to moments before your car reaches them, which can make the story feel slightly less clean.
