The Barnstormer is a pint-sized roller coaster in Fantasyland’s Storybook Circus corner of Magic Kingdom, themed to the Great Goofini’s daredevil stunt-plane act. It’s one of Disney’s classic “first coaster” trainers — a quick, gentle swoop around the circus grounds that clocks in at roughly a minute of actual ride time. Think tiny hills and breezy turns, not thrills.

Is it worth it?

Worth it as a milestone ride for little ones — not as a standalone destination. The Barnstormer is the perfect training-wheels coaster for a kid who’s tall enough (89cm/35in) but not ready for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Space Mountain: short, mild, and over before anyone can get too nervous. If a child handles this happily, it’s a genuine green light that they’re ready to graduate to bigger stuff.

Who should skip: adults or teens hoping for a real thrill will find it forgettable — this is a kiddie coaster, full stop. The standout is the low-stakes, family-win factor; the catch is the notoriously short ride for what can become a long standby line during peak hours. Don’t burn a Lightning Lane Multi Pass slot on it — the time saved rarely justifies it when a mid-tier headliner would save far more. Ride it early instead.

• The ride is genuinely short — about a minute — so manage expectations, especially for a kid who waited a while. There’s no big drop or hidden scare; it’s a series of small, playful swoops around the Great Goofini’s crash-landing gags (watch for the billboard sight jokes as you round the turns). Point those out to first-timers so the theming, not just the speed, is the payoff.
• On-ride photos: the camera catches you mid-swoop, so a genuine “whee!” face beats bracing — coach a nervous kid to smile and wave rather than clench up.

This is one of Magic Kingdom’s lowest coaster thresholds, which is exactly why it’s the go-to “first real coaster.” Intensity is mild — a 3-out-of-5 mostly because it is a coaster with small hills and quick turns, not because it’s rough. Motion sensitivity is rarely an issue given how short and gentle it is. For young or cautious kids, the main thing to prep for is the sensation of a few little dips and the fact that it moves at a real (if modest) clip; there are no dark tunnels, loud surprises, or steep drops to frighten timid riders. Rider Switch is available, so an adult can stay behind with any child who doesn’t meet the height requirement and swap in without waiting the full line again.
