Animal Kingdom Crowd Forecast: December 12–13, 2026

Published November 5, 2026

Here’s the number that should rearrange your whole day: SupaPark’s wait data shows Kilimanjaro Safaris posting a median wait of 10 minutes at 3 PM versus 50 minutes at 10 AM. Same ride, same operating day, 40 minutes of your life. That figure comes from SupaPark’s measurements over the last 30 days (Oct 7–Nov 4), so it’s the recent daily pattern rather than a reading of December 12–13 itself — but the shape of an Animal Kingdom day has been remarkably consistent, and it is the exact opposite of what most families do.

The verdict for December 12–13: Animal Kingdom is the calm one

SupaPark’s crowd forecast has Animal Kingdom averaging 6.0 out of 10 across this window, with a peak of 6/10 on December 12. For comparison, EPCOT averages 8.0 (peak 8/10 on Dec 12), Hollywood Studios averages 6.5 (peak 7/10 on Dec 12), and Magic Kingdom averages 5.5 (peak 6/10 on Dec 12). EPCOT is the busiest park in the window; Magic Kingdom is the lightest. All figures are as of Nov 5.

So Animal Kingdom is not technically the quietest park on the board. It is, however, the easiest 6 on the board — and that’s the distinction nobody makes. Look at how the two parks behave across a day in SupaPark’s 30-day pattern. Animal Kingdom’s median wait across its five busiest rides runs 25 minutes at 9 AM, peaks at 40 minutes at 11 AM, eases to 30 minutes at 2 PM, drops to 15 minutes at 5 PM, and bottoms out at 10 minutes at 6 PM. EPCOT does the reverse: 45 minutes at 9 AM, 50 at 11 AM, 55 at 2 PM, and its daily high of 60 minutes at 5 PM, still sitting at 45 minutes at 8 PM.

Read that again. Animal Kingdom’s worst hour is roughly EPCOT’s best hour. A 6 out of 10 at Animal Kingdom gives you a genuine afternoon payoff. An 8 out of 10 at EPCOT just grinds on you until close.

Day by day

Friday, December 12 — Animal Kingdom 6/10. This is the heavier of the two days everywhere: Magic Kingdom 6/10, Hollywood Studios 7/10, EPCOT 8/10. If you only have one Animal Kingdom day, this is the one to spend there, because Animal Kingdom’s 6 is the most forgiving number on a day when Hollywood Studios is at 7 and EPCOT is at 8.

Saturday, December 13 — Animal Kingdom 6/10 again, flat day over day. Everything else softens slightly: Magic Kingdom drops to 5/10, Hollywood Studios to 6/10, EPCOT holds at 8/10. There’s a catch on that Magic Kingdom 5, though, and it matters: Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party runs that night, which means Magic Kingdom closes early to day guests. A 5 out of 10 on a truncated day is not the same thing as a 5 out of 10 on a full one — you get a lighter park and fewer hours to use it in.

That’s the quietly useful takeaway of this window: Animal Kingdom is the one park that doesn’t change character between Friday and Saturday. You can plan it identically either day.

The best and worst hours at Animal Kingdom

Again, this is SupaPark’s recent 30-day pattern (Oct 7–Nov 4), not a forecast of these specific dates. But the swings are big enough to plan around.

Kilimanjaro Safaris: 10 minutes at 3 PM, 50 minutes at 10 AM. The received wisdom is to ride the safari first thing for active animals. The received wisdom is also what creates that 50-minute 10 AM wall. If animal activity is your priority, fine — ride early and accept the line. If your day is the priority, go at 3 PM and bank 40 minutes.

Na’vi River Journey: 10 minutes at 7 PM, 45 minutes at 11 AM. Pandora in the dark is the better version of Pandora anyway, with the bioluminescence doing its thing. Riding it at 11 AM is the single most common Animal Kingdom mistake.

The park-wide pattern: your worst hour is 11 AM (40-minute median). Your best is 6 PM (10 minutes). The practical plan writes itself — hit something early, go slow and animal-forward through the 11 AM crush, and treat late afternoon and evening as your real ride window instead of your exit window. Check the posted hours for your date before you commit to a late finish.

If you’d rather not watch a screen all day, SupaPark can set a wait-drop watch on Kilimanjaro Safaris or Na’vi River Journey and ping you when the number craters, so you’re walking over instead of guessing. One live watch is included free, and the crowd calendar and ride forecasts are free too, on the web or in the free iPhone and Android app.

Which park to pick instead

If you want the lightest park in this window, it’s Magic Kingdom — but take it on December 12 at 6/10 for a full day, not December 13, when the early close to day guests shortens your evening. Magic Kingdom’s own pattern rewards an early start: SupaPark’s 30-day data shows Jungle Cruise at a 5-minute median at 8 AM versus 40 minutes at noon, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at 9 minutes at 8 AM versus 35 minutes at 1 PM.

If you’re ride-chasing, skip EPCOT in this window. At 8/10 both days with waits that climb to a 60-minute median at 5 PM, it’s the hardest park to beat. Test Track alone runs 30 minutes at 8 AM versus 70 minutes at 4 PM, and Frozen Ever After 20 minutes at 8 AM versus 63 minutes at 1 PM. EPCOT here is a walk-around-and-eat day, not a rope-to-close ride day.

Hollywood Studios at 7/10 Friday and 6/10 Saturday is the swing option, and it’s a late-night park: Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway drops to a 10-minute median at 9 PM versus 50 minutes at noon, and Slinky Dog Dash to 30 minutes at 9 PM versus 68 at noon. Take it Saturday if you take it at all.

One practical note if you’re hopping: don’t try to outsmart Disney transportation on foot. The resort walking paths are consistently longer than they look — the Magic Kingdom-to-Grand Floridian-to-Transportation and Ticket Center stretch especially — and waiting for a bus or boat usually gets you there sooner with your legs intact. On a 6-out-of-10 day where your best rides are in the last three hours, those legs are the actual resource you’re protecting.

The one thing to remember

Animal Kingdom holds at 6/10 both days, which makes it the steadiest, best-value park in this window — but only if you flip your instincts and treat 3 PM onward as prime time instead of pack-up time.
