Animal Kingdom's New Indiana Jones Ride: Details & Strategy
Published August 24, 2026 · Updated September 30, 2026
Animal Kingdom’s rope-drop strategy has been identical for years: scan in, power-walk to Pandora, and get in line for Avatar Flight of Passage before the wait hits triple digits. But the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent is about to permanently rewrite the playbook for this park.
Following the D23 Expo, Disney and former Imagineer Joe Rohde dropped new details about the massive E-ticket coming to the new Tropical Americas land. Here is what to expect from the ride, what it means for your park day, and the strategic shift you need to prepare for.
No Live Animals, But a Very Big Snake
While Animal Kingdom is famous for blending live habitats seamlessly with storytelling—like Kilimanjaro Safaris or the Maharajah Jungle Trek—this new ride is taking a different path.
Rohde confirmed there will be absolutely no live animals integrated into Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. Instead, the attraction will rely on heavy-hitting special effects and massive animatronics. The centerpiece? A newly revealed model of Tsukán, a gigantic mythical snake that will serve as the ride’s primary antagonist as you explore a Mayan temple.
If you were worried this would just be a carbon copy of Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure, don’t be. While it is built on the same ride system (and replaces Dinosaur), this is a completely original story designed specifically for Animal Kingdom.
How This Flips Animal Kingdom Strategy
Right now, if you don’t buy a Lightning Lane Single Pass for Flight of Passage, you have to wake up early and rope-drop it. As is true when planning a Magic Kingdom day, getting up early and rope-dropping is the absolute best way to ride headliners like TRON Lightcycle / Run or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train with a 20- to 30-minute wait instead of paying extra. Animal Kingdom is no different.
When Tropical Americas opens, that early morning crowd is finally going to split. Half the park will still sprint left toward Pandora, but the other half is going to sprint right toward the new Indiana Jones ride.
The smart move: When this opens, Indy will almost certainly debut as a Lightning Lane Single Pass. If you buy the Single Pass for Indiana Jones, you can stick to the classic strategy of rope-dropping Pandora. You’ll effectively knock out the park’s two biggest wait times before most guests have finished their morning coffee. Conversely, if you want to rope-drop Indy, you’ll want to buy the Single Pass for Flight of Passage.
What to Do Right Now
Since Tropical Americas is still under construction, you don’t need to change your current Animal Kingdom plans just yet. Continue prioritizing Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Na’vi River Journey and Kilimanjaro Safaris, and decide whether you want to pay for a Flight of Passage Single Pass or simply arrive 45 minutes before park opening to ride it via standby.
SupaPark’s wait-time forecaster will track the exact shifts the day Tropical Americas opens. Until then, use the forecaster to see exactly when lines dip in the afternoon for the park’s current headliners so you can avoid wasting time in line.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the new Indiana Jones ride feature live animals?
No, Disney has confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent will not include live animals, relying instead on special effects and large animatronics like the mythical snake, Tsukán.
Is this the exact same ride as the one in Disneyland?
No. While it uses a similar motion-base ride vehicle, the Animal Kingdom version features a completely original storyline centered around a Mayan temple and a mythical creature.
Where is the new Indiana Jones ride located in Disney World?
It is located in the upcoming Tropical Americas land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which is replacing the former DinoLand U.S.A. area.
Will I need a Lightning Lane for the new Indiana Jones ride?
Given its status as a massive new headliner, it will almost certainly draw the longest lines in the park and be a prime candidate for Lightning Lane Single Pass when it opens.
