Disney World's Resort Parking Crackdown: What to Know

Disney World is officially tightening parking regulations across all 30+ of its resort hotels. For years, guests have tried to game the system—parking at a monorail resort to avoid the Ticket and Transportation Center, or leaving their car at Disney’s BoardWalk to walk into EPCOT. If you are relying on those old tricks, it is time to update your playbook.

Here is what you actually need to know about the new parking reality and how to adjust your plans so you don’t waste time arguing at a security gate.

The End of the “Park and Walk” Hack

If you aren’t an overnight guest at a specific resort, parking access is incredibly strict. Security guards will turn away vehicles that don’t have a confirmed Advance Dining Reservation (ADR). In the past, some guests would place a mobile order for a quick-service meal as an excuse to park, but guards frequently reject this now—especially at high-demand resorts near the theme parks.

The move: Do not plan to park your car at a resort just to walk or take the monorail to a theme park. Even with a dining reservation, your parking privileges are intended only for the duration of your meal. If you need to park for a theme park day, use the official theme park lots.

How to Handle Late-Night Resort Hopping

Disney World resorts have some excellent late-night spots that are worth visiting even if you aren’t staying there. For example, the BoardWalk Pizza Window is a great late-night stop that stays open until 11:00 PM for an after-hours slice.

But with strict parking rules, how do you get there? If you don’t have a confirmed dining reservation, don’t try to drive your own rental car. Instead, use Disney’s free transportation from a theme park or Disney Springs, or take a rideshare (Uber or Lyft). Rideshares are generally allowed to drop off guests without a dining reservation, making it the easiest way to hop over for a late-night bite or a drink at a lounge.

A Warning for Those Who Do Park

If you are driving and parking at your own resort or in the main theme park lots, remember this durable rule: never store valuables in your car, even at Disney World. While the Disney bubble feels secure, vehicle break-ins can and do happen.
