DVC Tightens Rules on Changing Home Resort Bookings

Disney Vacation Club has changed the rules governing how Members modify Home Resort reservations, according to reports published Thursday, September 17, 2026. Under the updated Home Resort Rules and Regulations, a Member can only change the travel dates or room type on a confirmed reservation once that reservation’s original checkout date falls within 11 months of the request.

As of Thursday, September 17, 2026, reports say the restriction is written into Disney’s governing documents rather than posted as informal booking guidance, and that it applies at Walt Disney World Resort and other Disney Vacation Club Home Resorts.

The underlying booking window is unchanged. Members can still book a Home Resort stay beginning 11 months before their desired check-in day, for up to seven consecutive nights after that check-in date, and reservations remain first come, first served and subject to availability.

The practical effect, per the same reports, is the end of “reservation walking” at the 11-month window. That tactic relied on booking an early stay the moment the window opened, then repeatedly shifting the dates forward as later nights became bookable — staying ahead of other owners. With the new checkout-date rule, a reservation whose original checkout is more than 11 months out cannot be moved.

There is a second consequence for long trips. A Member planning a 10-, 12-, or 14-night stay starts with the seven-night initial booking, but cannot extend that reservation through date changes until its original checkout date enters the 11-month window. By then, the later nights may already have been claimed by other Home Resort owners, and because DVC inventory is space-available, a continuous stay is not guaranteed.

Ending walking does not add rooms. It changes who gets the existing inventory, and reports do not claim that overall availability improves or worsens systemwide.

Assume you may end up split across room categories, or in rare cases across resorts, on a long trip. Build your dining and park plan so a mid-trip move does not wreck it, and remember Advance Dining Reservations open 60 days before your arrival at 6:00 AM Eastern regardless of how your room nights are stitched together.
