EPCOT's Germany Pavilion Is Prepping For a Refurbishment: How to Adjust Your Plan

Disney is quietly gearing up to throw construction walls around EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion. While Disney has not announced an exact start date or the full scope of the refurbishment, preparations are clearly underway in World Showcase.

If your EPCOT strategy usually involves a bratwurst, a grapefruit beer, or watching the miniature trains, this upcoming closure is going to force a change of plans. Here is what the refurbishment means for your park day and the smart moves to make when Germany goes behind walls.

The Squeeze on World Showcase Snacking

Germany is one of the heaviest-hitting food and beverage stops in EPCOT. Between the massive pretzels at Sommerfest, the Werther’s original treats at Karamell-Küche, and the always-popular beer carts, it absorbs a massive amount of the World Showcase crowd.

If these locations go down during the refurbishment, expect the lines at neighboring pavilions to spike as hungry guests spill over. The pizza window in Italy and the Outpost refreshment stops will likely take the brunt of the overflow.

The smart move: If you need a reliable, quick bite and the World Showcase lines are swelling, bail toward the front of the park. Connections Eatery is EPCOT’s largest quick-service spot, and it is vastly underrated. It offers a huge, air-conditioned dining room and a menu of pizza, chicken, and salads that beats waiting in the sun for a pretzel.

Where to Pivot for a Heavy Meal

If the Biergarten Restaurant—Germany’s beloved table-service buffet—is impacted, you will need a backup plan for a hearty, indoor, air-conditioned meal.

The smart move: Skip the scramble for a last-minute table and head to Regal Eagle Smokehouse in the American Adventure pavilion. It is a quick-service spot that delivers a genuine sit-down experience without the sit-down price tag.

If you go to Regal Eagle, use the platter hack: if you have two light-to-medium eaters, do not order two full meals. Buy one BBQ platter (which comes with two sides) and add a third à la carte side. You will have plenty of food to share, reduce waste, and save money. Just remember to skip the burger—you walked into a smokehouse, so order what the kitchen is built to do. Pick one starch and branch out on your other sides so you don’t fill up on bread, and taste your meat before you hit the sauce station so you can actually taste the smoke.
