Space 220 With Kids: Smart Splurge or Skip?
Published July 5, 2026 · Updated September 30, 2026
Space 220 is one of those EPCOT reservations where the real question is not “is the food good?” It is “will your kids care enough about the space fantasy to justify a long, pricey sit-down meal?”
For a lot of families, the answer is yes. Not because Space 220 is EPCOT’s best food value, but because the experience can land hard with the right kids: the elevator-style launch, the dining room “above Earth,” and the giant space views are the point. If your child is the kind who will stare out the window and narrate every astronaut, ship, or tiny Earth detail, this can feel like a big trip memory. If your child mainly wants chicken, a quick meal, and Test Track-level momentum, this may be an expensive pause in the middle of your EPCOT day.
The Smart Verdict
Book Space 220 with kids if you want one memorable, highly themed meal and you are comfortable treating the view as part of what you are paying for.
Skip it if you are measuring the meal by food alone. EPCOT has stronger food-first choices, especially around World Showcase. Space 220 works best as an experience reservation, not as the place you go because you want the best plate in the park.
The bigger family planning issue is time. Space 220 is not a quick refuel. Plan on about 75 to 90 minutes once you are seated. That can be a great air-conditioned reset on a long EPCOT day, but it can also eat the exact stretch when your kids still have ride energy. Do not wedge it between tight Lightning Lane windows or right before you are trying to cross the park.
Why Kids May Love It More Than Adults
Adults tend to judge Space 220 with a calculator in their head. Kids usually judge it in the first five minutes.
The arrival sequence is a huge part of the appeal. You are not just walking into a restaurant; you are being pulled into a space-station story before you ever sit down. For younger kids, that setup can make the whole meal feel more real than a normal themed dining room.
The best-case scenario is a child who buys into the illusion and spends the meal watching the windows. That is where Space 220 earns its keep. You are getting a built-in table distraction that is not a tablet, and for some families that alone makes the meal feel smoother.
The catch: if your kids are too young to sit through a longer prix-fixe-style meal, the novelty may fade before dessert. If they are restless diners, consider whether you would rather spend that time on attractions, snacks, and shorter breaks.
Lunch Is Usually the Better Family Move
If you can choose, lunch is usually the smarter Space 220 play.
The view is essentially the same, and lunch generally gives you the experience without committing your prime EPCOT evening to a long meal. That matters because evening in EPCOT is valuable: World Showcase gets more atmospheric, families start staking out nighttime plans, and your walking route can get more crowded and less flexible.
A lunch reservation also works as a midday reset. EPCOT can feel spread out and hot, especially with kids, so a longer indoor meal can be useful if you time it as a deliberate break. The mistake is booking it too early, when everyone still has morning energy, or too late, when it collides with your best evening touring window.
The sweet spot is a lunch that breaks up your day after you have already knocked out a few priorities. Use it as the sit-down pause, then come out ready for the rest of EPCOT.
Booking Is the Real Battle
Space 220 is a hard reservation to grab, so do not build your whole EPCOT plan around walking up and hoping.
Advance Dining Reservations open 60 days before arrival at 6:00 AM Eastern in My Disney Experience. If Space 220 is a must-do, treat it like a priority reservation, especially if you need a family-sized table at a normal kid-friendly meal time.
If it is gone, do not assume you are done. Cancellations can appear, especially around less obvious times. Earliest and latest slots are often worth watching because people reshuffle plans when they realize the timing is awkward for their park day.
This is exactly where SupaPark’s dining Drop Watch is useful: SupaPark can ping you the second a table opens, then you grab it in My Disney Experience. You still book directly with Disney, but you are not stuck refreshing all day like it is your part-time job.
What to Order Without Overthinking It
Space 220 is the kind of restaurant where ordering carefully matters. You are already paying for the environment, so do not make the meal feel worse by choosing the weakest value on the menu.
A smart adult order is the Roasted Beet & Goat Cheese Salad to start, Pan-Seared Atlantic Salmon as the main, and Chocolate Hazelnut Tart for dessert. If you want one drink that actually fits the theme, the Stargarita is the obvious pick.
Two items to be cautious with: Lobster Mac & Cheese and Filet Mignon. The Lobster Mac & Cheese is dinner-only and often lands as less impressive than people expect for the setting. The Filet Mignon is the kind of order that only makes sense if you are truly in steak mode and comfortable paying for that choice inside a theme-forward restaurant.
For kids, the bigger strategy is not “what is the fanciest order?” It is “what will they actually eat while still enjoying the room?” Do not turn this into a battle meal. If the space view is the headline, let the food be simple enough that everyone stays relaxed.
Don’t Let It Wreck Your Ride Plan
The hidden cost of Space 220 is not just money. It is opportunity cost.
EPCOT’s headliners and Lightning Lane timing can make the day feel like a puzzle. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction. Most other Lightning Lane attractions in EPCOT fall under Multi Pass, where you book selections in advance based on your eligibility window, then keep adding one at a time after redeeming one or after its window passes.
That means you should avoid stacking Space 220 directly against your most important ride windows. A 75-to-90-minute meal can turn a “perfectly fine” plan into a stressful sprint across EPCOT.
Also, do not bury yourself somewhere with spotty service right before you need to make or modify something time-sensitive. If you are waiting on a reservation drop, Lightning Lane refill, or important alert, stay somewhere you can actually act on it. SupaPark can catch the opportunity, but you still need to grab it in My Disney Experience.
Who Should Skip It
Skip Space 220 if your EPCOT day is ride-heavy, your kids dislike long meals, or you are trying to maximize food quality per dollar.
Also skip it if your group is full of grazers. EPCOT is one of the best Disney World parks for snack-and-stroll eating, and some families are happier building a day around smaller bites than locking into a long table-service meal.
If your child is not especially into space, screens, or immersive restaurants, the “wow” factor may not carry the whole experience. In that case, use your table-service time somewhere that better matches your family’s actual eating style.
The Best Way to Use Space 220
Treat Space 220 like a planned centerpiece, not an accidental meal.
Book it for lunch if possible. Keep the surrounding two hours flexible. Do not pair it with your tightest Lightning Lane window. Watch for cancellations if you miss the first booking wave. And go in knowing the view is the value.
The one thing to remember: Space 220 is worth it with kids when the experience is the point. If you are hoping it will be EPCOT’s best food bargain, you are asking it to be the wrong restaurant.
