What's inside

Who it's for: Anyone spending one or two days at Magic Kingdom who wants to ride the big ones without spending the day in line — first-timers and repeat visitors alike.

The promise: Know, before you arrive, which rides to hit first, which Lightning Lanes are gone by breakfast, and which hours are quietest — from measured data, not folklore.

At a Glance

Be inside before opening and spend the first hour on the Frontierland–Adventureland loop. Buy TRON’s Single Pass in your advance window, and put your Multi Pass on Peter Pan’s Flight and Winnie the Pooh.

The question The answer (posted waits, SupaPark measurements)
When to arrive Inside before your date’s published opening. It was 9:00 AM on 36 of our 56 days and 8:00 AM on 20. The first open hour averaged 21 minutes park-wide.
First three rides Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (7 min) → Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (12) → Jungle Cruise (12)
Lightning Lanes that go first TRON (gone before 7 AM on 30 of 35 days), Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (before 7 AM on 23), then Peter Pan’s Flight (median 12:00 PM) and Winnie the Pooh (median 12:18 PM)
Quietest and busiest hours Quietest clock hour 9 AM (24-minute park average); busiest 7 PM (49) on late-closing nights
The one mistake Spending a Multi Pass selection on a ride you’ll get on at opening, or on one that rarely sells out

The first hour

Order Ride Posted, first open hour Average daily peak (posted) Difference (derived)
1 Tiana’s Bayou Adventure 7 min 43 min ~36 min
2 Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 12 min 42 min ~30 min
3 Jungle Cruise 12 min 41 min ~29 min

The loop is ordered by how much posted wait each ride saves. Jungle Cruise has one wrinkle: it climbs fastest between the 9 AM and 10 AM clock hours (17 → 31 minutes, against Tiana’s 8 → 18 and Big Thunder’s 15 → 25; clock-hour averages, a different measure from the first-open-hour figures in the table). If Tiana’s and Big Thunder take you past 10 AM, take Jungle Cruise next rather than later. Pirates of the Caribbean (5 minutes in the first hour) is next door if you have time for a fourth.

TRON

TRON posts 39 minutes even in its first open hour, the highest first-hour wait of any ride we measure. It sits across the hub in Tomorrowland. Its Single Pass (median $19 over the last 30 days, range $19–$23) sold out on all 35 days we tracked, and on 30 of them it was gone before 7:00 AM on the day itself. We didn’t measure how fast it sells once advance purchase opens; we only know it’s bought ahead, not that morning. Buy it in My Disney Experience during your advance window.

If it’s gone, keep the loop and ride TRON standby in the afternoon. It posted 49 minutes at 2 PM against 39 in the first hour. Rope-dropping it saves only about 10 posted minutes over 2 PM (derived) and costs you the loop. Never ride TRON standby in the evening: it posts 68 to 80 from 6 to 8 PM.

Lightning Lane

Evenings

On a late-closing date, have dinner from 6 to 8 PM. The park averages 48 and 49 minutes at 6 and 7 PM and is still 44 at 8 PM, then falls to 30 at 9 PM. Those evening figures come only from the 31 days with a late published closing (21 at 11:00 PM and 10 at 10:00 PM, by our count). Earlier hours average all 56 days, so part of the 6 PM jump may reflect which days are included. The other 25 days closed at 6:00 PM.

Pro tip: On Seven Dwarfs Mine Train each row seats two, so a party of three gets split. Decide who rides together before you reach the loading platform.

The Shape of a Magic Kingdom Day

Posted waits climb hard for the first two hours, then plateau from noon to 5 PM — park-wide and ride by ride. The hours worth planning around are the first two and, on late-closing nights, 9 PM.

The park-wide curve

Average posted wait across Magic Kingdom’s eight busiest rides, by clock hour, over 56 days (August 17 to October 11). These are posted waits measured by SupaPark, not time actually spent in line.

Quietest clock hour: 9 AM (24). Busiest: 7 PM (49), on late-closing nights. The 21-minute first-open-hour average covers whichever hour the park opened, including the 20 days it opened at 8:00 AM. On those days 9 AM was the second hour.

How to read it:

The plateau, ride by ride

Ride 9 AM Noon 2 PM 5 PM 9 PM (late days)
TRON Lightcycle / Run 43 51 49 55 70
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train 37 45 42 46 37

Jungle Cruise 17 35 31 32 12
Space Mountain 18 31 23 31 21
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 23 15 17 7

Every headliner plateaus from noon to 5 PM, so for most of them afternoon timing barely matters. Two exceptions dip after lunch:

The 9 PM column has its own lesson. Jungle Cruise (12), Pirates (7) and Tiana’s (17) are the late-night bargains, while TRON (70) is the ride not to save for the end. “Quiet Windows: Parades, Fireworks and the Last Hour” has the full list.

Ride, eat, rest

On a 6:00 PM closing date

There’s no evening. Refills come one at a time, as soon as you’re eligible. By mid-afternoon the realistic options are Haunted Mansion (sold out on only 69% of days, median 3:57 PM when it did) and Space Mountain (sold out on 34% of days). Buzz and Tiana’s had sold out by 2:14 and 2:44 PM on a typical (median) sellout day. The 38–40-minute park averages from 3 to 5 PM cover all 56 days, not just the early-close ones.

Pro tip: A weekday helps TRON and Space Mountain most. TRON’s average daily peak was 69 minutes on weekdays and 85 on weekends (+16, derived), Space Mountain’s 35 and 45 (+10). Seven Dwarfs Mine Train moved only from 50 to 56.

Rope Drop: The First Hour Is Worth Three

The ride that saves the most posted wait at opening isn’t the famous one. It’s the one whose line grows most by midday, and at Magic Kingdom that’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

For each ride, we compared its average posted wait in the first open hour with its average daily peak over 56 days. The difference is derived and counted in posted minutes, not time in line. “Average daily peak” is the average of each day’s highest posted wait, so it can sit above any single clock hour. Peter Pan’s is 49, against a noon clock-hour average of 42.

Ride Height First open hour (posted) Average daily peak (posted) Difference (derived)

*TRON’s daily peak most often falls at 8 PM, an hour that exists only on late-closing days. Against its 2 PM clock-hour average (49), the first open hour saves about 10 minutes (derived).

What the table changes

Check heights before you commit to the loop

The At a Glance loop (Tiana’s → Big Thunder → Jungle Cruise) needs 40 inches for Tiana’s and 38 for Big Thunder. A party with a child under 38 inches loses two of the three, unless an adult uses Rider Switch. Family version: Jungle Cruise (12) → Pirates (5) → Haunted Mansion (12). None of the three has a height requirement in our table.

The second hour, and when a ride is down

The figures below are clock-hour averages across all 56 days. On an 8:00 AM opening, shift every step an hour earlier.

Early Theme Park Entry

Guests at eligible Disney resort hotels get Early Theme Park Entry, half an hour before general opening. Our first-hour numbers count only published park hours, so that half hour isn’t in them. Check the current list of eligible hotels in My Disney Experience the week you travel. Off-site guests: the loop still holds. Its first-hour posted waits (Tiana’s 7, Big Thunder and Jungle Cruise 12, Pirates 5) are the lowest headliner waits we measure.

Pro tip: If you’re running late, start at Haunted Mansion. It climbs slowest of the opening rides (13 at 9 AM, 17 at 10 AM, 23 at 11 AM), so it’s the one that forgives a late arrival.

Lightning Lane at Magic Kingdom: What Sells Out and When

Buy for the rides that actually sell out, and skip the ones that don’t. Six Multi Pass rides sold out on at least 94% of days, and eight on 15% or fewer.

How it works here

What it has cost lately

Product Median (last 30 days) Range
Multi Pass, Magic Kingdom (per person, per day) $27 $23–$39
Single Pass, TRON Lightcycle / Run (per ride) $19 $19–$23
Single Pass, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (per ride) $12 $11–$15

The weekday Multi Pass median was $27 and the weekend median $29. Prices vary by date, so check yours in My Disney Experience.

The sellout board

We check availability repeatedly through the day. A ride’s sellout time is when the checks first found no return times left; inventory that reappears later is recorded as a comeback. The window runs September 7 to October 11, up to 35 measured days per ride. Days a ride was down or closed don’t count.

Ride Pass Days measured Sold out on Median sellout time (on days it sold out)
TRON Lightcycle / Run Single 35 100% gone before 7 AM on 30 days; daytime median 8:32 AM on the 5 others
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Single 35 86% gone before 7 AM on 23 days; daytime median 7:51 AM on the 7 others (never on 5)

Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Multi 32 47% 9:30 PM*
Mickey’s PhilharMagic Multi 35 40% 6:25 PM*
Space Mountain Multi 32 34% 6:01 PM*

*These sold out on a minority of days, so the median rests on a few days. We can’t tell from availability checks alone whether Laugh Floor’s and PhilharMagic’s evening times reflect real demand or the end of their show schedules.

Rarely or never sold out: Pirates of the Caribbean (5 of 34 days), Tomorrowland Speedway (5 of 35), The Barnstormer (3 of 35), Dumbo (2 of 35), The Magic Carpets of Aladdin (2 of 34), Mad Tea Party (1 of 35), Under the Sea (1 of 35), “it’s a small world” (0 of 35).

Booking order

  1. Advance selection: Peter Pan’s Flight (97% of days, median 12:00 PM; its earliest sellout was 7:17 AM).
  2. Advance selection: Winnie the Pooh (every measured day, median 12:18 PM).
  3. First refill: Buzz Lightyear (median 2:14 PM).
  4. Second refill: Haunted Mansion (69% of days, median 3:57 PM).
  5. Evening refill: Space Mountain (sold out on 11 of 32 days, median 6:01 PM, with the earliest at 7:00 AM), PhilharMagic or Laugh Floor.

Big Thunder, Jungle Cruise and Tiana’s sell out almost daily too, but this plan rides them at opening on posted waits of 12, 12 and 7. Don’t spend a selection on them unless you’re skipping the loop.

What’s likely left when you refill

This table is derived from the sellout medians above, not separately measured. Medians are midpoints, so by the median time a ride had already sold out on about half of its sellout days.

When you refill Typically still open Gone on about half of days by then
Late morning Most of the Multi Pass list —
About noon–1 PM Jungle Cruise, Buzz, Tiana’s, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain Peter Pan’s Flight (12:00), Big Thunder (12:05), Winnie the Pooh (12:18)
About 2–3 PM Tiana’s, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain Buzz (2:14), Jungle Cruise (12:52); Big Thunder (12:05), though its inventory came back on 6 sold-out days, median 1:17 PM
Late afternoon Space Mountain, PhilharMagic; Haunted Mansion on the 31% of days it didn’t sell out Haunted Mansion (3:57)
Evening Space Mountain and PhilharMagic most days Laugh Floor near its show times

SupaPark’s refill alerts can tell you when sold-out inventory comes back. In our data it did for Seven Dwarfs (22 sold-out days) and Big Thunder (6). You book it in My Disney Experience.

Is Multi Pass worth it here?

At a $27 median ($29 on weekends), Multi Pass covers four rides you’d otherwise queue for at their posted peaks: Peter Pan’s Flight (49-minute average daily peak), Buzz (45), Winnie the Pooh (37) and Haunted Mansion (29). If none of them is on your list, the rope-drop loop covers Tiana’s, Big Thunder and Jungle Cruise, and Multi Pass becomes optional.

Single Pass

At a Glance covers when to buy each. One thing to add on Seven Dwarfs: on the 7 days it sold out after 7 AM, the median was 7:51 AM. If you’re buying it the morning of, buy it the moment you can.

Pro tip: Peter Pan’s Flight’s earliest same-day sellout was 7:17 AM. “I’ll pick it in the morning” can fail, so make it your first advance selection.

The Headliners, Ride by Ride

Each headliner gets its best time, its sellout pattern, a verdict (buy, book, rope-drop or standby), and one verified detail where we have one.

All waits are posted waits over 56 days. “Avg daily peak” is the average of each day’s highest posted wait, not a clock-hour figure: TRON’s is 74, though its 8 PM clock hour averages 80. Lightning Lane figures cover up to 35 measured days per ride (September 7 to October 11). The 9 PM column comes only from late-closing days; on a 6:00 PM closing date there is no 9 PM.

TRON Lightcycle / Run (Tomorrowland)

TRON has the highest first-hour wait (39) and the highest average daily peak (74) of anything we measure. Its daytime clock-hour averages are fairly flat (43 at 9 AM, 49 at 2 PM, 55 at 5 PM); the evening is the problem (68–80 from 6 to 8 PM). Buy the Single Pass. If it’s gone, ride at 2 PM. It doesn’t go upside down, and the minimum height is 48 inches. The lockers at the entrance are free, so stash everything and ask for the back row, where the launch hits hardest.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Fantasyland)

Its wait barely moves: 37 at 9 AM, 42–46 from noon to 5 PM, 37 at 9 PM. Rope drop saves little, so it’s a buy (Single Pass, median $12) or a recheck after lunch. The back rows swing widest, and the front is the gentler seat. In the queue, spin the gem barrels and look into the washing trough, which projects Snow White’s face in the water. Minimum height 38 inches, with Rider Switch.

Peter Pan’s Flight (Fantasyland)

Rope drop saves about 20 posted minutes here, less than the Frontierland loop. Its Multi Pass has the earliest daytime median sellout among Multi Pass rides (12:00 PM). Big Thunder (12:05 PM) is close, but you rope-drop that one, so Peter Pan’s is the first advance selection. If you miss it, its quietest hour is 9 PM (28) on a late-closing night. On a 6:00 PM closing date, ride it in the first hour instead (31 at 9 AM). Look down as you fly: the scenes are built to be seen from above.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (Frontierland)

Ride it in the first open hour: 7 minutes then (8 at 9 AM) against 36 at 1 PM. If you rope-drop it, skip it on Multi Pass, even though it sold out on 94% of days. It’s about an 11-minute flume. Independent sources put its biggest drop at about 50 feet (three sources) and its top speed at about 40 mph (two). Minimum height 40 inches, with Rider Switch.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Frontierland)

Rope-drop it: 15 at 9 AM, 34 by noon, and 23 at 9 PM on late-closing nights. It doesn’t go upside down. The back car takes every hill fastest. If you missed it, its Multi Pass came back on 6 of its 28 sold-out days at a median of 1:17 PM, a long shot. Minimum height 38 inches, with Rider Switch.

Jungle Cruise (Adventureland)

Rope-drop it. It climbs fastest of the loop rides (17 at 9 AM, 31 at 10 AM) and stays at 31–35 until the evening if you skip it. On a late-closing night it’s back to 12 at 9 PM. Ride once after dark if you can: the jungle gets different lighting and the skipper patter loosens up.

Space Mountain (Tomorrowland)

18 at 9 AM, 31 at noon, then a dip to 23 at 2 PM, back to 31 at 5 PM. Its Multi Pass sold out on only about a third of days, so don’t spend an early selection on it; ride standby at 2 PM. Weekends run 45 at the daily peak against 35 on weekdays. Ask for the front seat, where nothing but stars ahead makes it feel twice as fast. Riders sit single file, so pick your order before you board. Minimum height 44 inches, with Rider Switch.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (Tomorrowland)

Ride it early or use it as your first refill (median sellout 2:14 PM): 15 at 9 AM, 28 at 10 AM, 39 at 5 PM. The joystick spins your car, so you can hit targets beside and behind you.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (Fantasyland)

Book it: its Multi Pass sold out on every measured day. Standby runs 23 at 9 AM, 30 at noon, 32 at 4–5 PM, and 19 at 9 PM on late-closing nights. Look for the portrait of Mr. Toad handing a deed to Owl, a nod to the ride it replaced.

Haunted Mansion (Liberty Square)

Use it as your second refill: it sold out on only 69% of days, at a daytime median of 3:57 PM. Standby runs 13 at 9 AM, 26 at noon, 24 at 2 PM. In the queue, touch the instruments on the composer’s crypt and they play back.

Pirates of the Caribbean (Adventureland)

Standby only: 5 at 9 AM, 23 at noon, 15 at 2 PM, and 7 at 9 PM on late-closing nights. It’s about a 9-minute ride, so in the first hour you get more ride time than posted wait. Sit on the left side of the boat for the closest pass through the fort battle.

Pro tip: If TRON’s Single Pass is gone, make 2 PM your Tomorrowland hour. TRON posts 49 then (51 at noon, 77–80 in the evening), and Space Mountain next door posts 23 at 2 PM and 26 at 3 PM.

Ride Fit: Heights, Thrills and Rider Switch

Seven Magic Kingdom rides have a height requirement, and 38 inches is the step that matters most: it opens Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train together.

Heights come from SupaPark’s attractions table, waits are posted waits over 56 days, and Lightning Lane figures cover 29–35 measured days, depending on the ride. The sign at the ride entrance has the final word on height.

Min. height Ride Land Thrill (of 5) Length Rider Switch Posted: first hour / avg daily peak Lightning Lane sold out on
32 in Tomorrowland Speedway Tomorrowland 2 ~5 min Yes 10 / 19 min 14% of 35 days
35 in The Barnstormer Fantasyland 3 ~1 min Yes 6 / 18 min 9% of 35 days
38 in Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Frontierland 4 ~4 min Yes 12 / 42 min 97% of 29 days
38 in Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Fantasyland 3 ~3 min Yes 36 / 52 min 86% of 35 (Single Pass)
40 in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Frontierland 4 ~11 min Yes 7 / 43 min 94% of 34 days
44 in Space Mountain Tomorrowland 5 ~3 min Yes 17 / 38 min 34% of 32 days
48 in TRON Lightcycle / Run Tomorrowland 5 ~2 min Yes 39 / 74 min 100% of 35 (Single Pass)

Every other ride has no height requirement in our table. Ask the cast member at the ride entrance how Rider Switch is running that day.

What a child who just cleared 38 inches should do

Both 38-inch rides open together, and they call for different tactics. Ride Big Thunder in the first hour (12 minutes posted). Seven Dwarfs barely moves all day (see At a Glance), so rope drop gains little. Buy its Single Pass in My Disney Experience during your advance window. The fallback if you miss it is in “Lightning Lane at Magic Kingdom: What Sells Out and When”.

A try-it ladder for nervous riders (ordered by thrill, then by cost to try)

  1. Tomorrowland Speedway: thrill 2 of 5, the lowest on the list, about 5 minutes, 32 inches.
  2. The Barnstormer: thrill 3 of 5, the shortest ride in the height table (about 1 minute). It posts 6 minutes in the first hour.
  3. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train: thrill 3 of 5 but costly to practise on. It posts 36 even in the first hour, so pair it with its Single Pass. The front row is the gentler seat.
  4. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: thrill 4 of 5, about 4 minutes, doesn’t go upside down. Ride it in the first hour (12), and sit forward, since the back car takes the hills fastest.
  5. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure: thrill 4 of 5, about 11 minutes, with a drop of about 50 feet.
  6. Space Mountain or TRON: thrill 5 of 5. Space Mountain has drops; TRON doesn’t go upside down.

Seating and splitting your group

What a Rider Switch costs the waiting adult (derived)

Our data shows only that Rider Switch applies; ask the cast member how it works that day. If the first rider queues standby, a rough cost to the waiting adult is posted wait plus ride length (derived):

Do your switches early. Unloading and the walk out add a little more. These are posted waits; a Lightning Lane or Single Pass return shrinks the first rider’s queue. With TRON’s Single Pass, which this guide recommends, the switch costs about the ride length plus the return-line time.

For riders under 32 inches

These rides have no height requirement in our table, post short waits at opening and peak low: Under the Sea (5 in the first hour, 21 average daily peak), “it’s a small world” (6, 19), Dumbo (6, 18), Mad Tea Party (6, 13), The Magic Carpets of Aladdin (5, 14). Peter Pan’s Flight (29, 49) and Winnie the Pooh (20, 37) are the exceptions, which is why they’re the Multi Pass picks.

Pro tip: On Space Mountain, riders sit single file, one per row, so a small child rides in their own row, not beside you. Decide your group’s order before you board.

Quiet Windows: Parades, Fireworks and the Last Hour

On a late-closing night, aim for the 9 PM hour, not 8 PM. It’s a second chance for the rides your morning didn’t reach. Keep TRON and Buzz out of it.

The evening, ride by ride (late-closing days only)

The park-wide picture is in At a Glance and “The Shape of a Magic Kingdom Day”. The 8 PM and 9 PM figures below come only from the 31 late-closing days. The first-open-hour figures average all 56 days, so the two columns compare different sets of days. On the 10 days that closed at 10:00 PM, 9 PM was the last hour, and we have no 10 PM figure for the 21 days that closed at 11:00 PM.

Ride First open hour (posted) 8 PM (posted) 9 PM (posted) Use it late?
Peter Pan’s Flight 29 37 28 Yes, if you missed its Multi Pass: 28 is its quietest hour
Winnie the Pooh 20 29 19 Only if you didn’t get it on Multi Pass
Jungle Cruise 12 22 12 Yes, as a second chance
Space Mountain 17 30 21 Yes: 21 at 9 PM against 31 at 5 PM
Under the Sea 5 12 5 Yes
Haunted Mansion 12 21 17 Yes, if you didn’t land its refill
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure 7 — 17 Better at opening
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 12 — 23 Better at opening (~11 min more, derived)
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train 36 — 37 Yes: ties opening (54 at 6–7 PM) and keeps your morning for the loop
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 12 7 Yes, a low-cost closer
“it’s a small world” 6 7 6 Yes, a low-cost closer
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin 12 36 25 No: ride it early or on Multi Pass
TRON Lightcycle / Run 39 80 70 No: worse late

A dash means too few days had valid readings for that hour (Seven Dwarfs, Tiana’s and Big Thunder have no 8 PM figure). At 8 PM most rides are still well above their first open hour. The drop comes in the 9 PM hour, the quietest measured hour for Peter Pan’s Flight (28), Jungle Cruise (12, against 17 at 9 AM) and Winnie the Pooh (19).

One 9 PM hour, ranked

With ride times and walking, a single hour fits three or four rides. Pick one side of the park:

“Final open hour” numbers, read correctly

Each ride’s final-open-hour average (TRON 63, Seven Dwarfs 35, Tiana’s 16, Haunted Mansion 17, Pirates 9) mixes late-closing days with the 25 days that closed at 6:00 PM. For late-night planning, use the 9 PM column, and check your date’s published closing time.

Early-close days

Our data doesn’t split the final hour by closing time, so this is indicative only. The final-open-hour figures mix 6 PM, 10 PM and 11 PM closings, while the 5 PM clock hour averages all 56 days. For most rides the final open hour sits below 5 PM (Under the Sea 6 against 16, Pirates 9 against 17, Tiana’s 16 against 32, Haunted Mansion 17 against 25), but TRON goes the other way (63 against 55). On a 6:00 PM date, plan the headliners for the first hour.

Parades and the nighttime show

SupaPark’s hourly data doesn’t separate out parade or show times, so this guide makes no claim that lines dip during them. For watching the fireworks, the Frontierland walkway is a quieter spot than the castle area. You trade the projections for room to stand and an easy walk out.

After-dark rides worth repeating

Pro tip: Missed Peter Pan’s Flight on Multi Pass? Don’t queue at noon (42 posted). Come back in the 9 PM hour on a late-closing night. It posts 28 then, its quietest measured hour and about the same as at 9 AM (31).

Land by Land: Small Moves That Add Up

Most of a good Magic Kingdom day is made of short posted waits you didn’t know were short. Here they are land by land, with the details worth looking for.

Waits are posted (first open hour / average daily peak) over 56 days. The Hall of Presidents has 55 days and the railroad 42. Run times come from SupaPark’s attractions table. The headliners have their own chapter, “The Headliners, Ride by Ride”.

Stays short all day

Attraction Land First open hour Avg daily peak Run time
Swiss Family Treehouse Adventureland 4 5 ~10 min
Country Bear Musical Jamboree Frontierland 5 10 ~16 min
Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room Adventureland 8 10 ~10 min
Prince Charming Regal Carrousel Fantasyland 5 10 ~2 min
Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Tomorrowland 8 11 ~15 min
Mad Tea Party Fantasyland 6 13 ~2 min
The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Adventureland 5 14 ~2 min
Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover Tomorrowland 5 14 ~10 min
The Hall of Presidents Liberty Square — 14 ~25 min
Mickey’s PhilharMagic Fantasyland 13 15 ~12 min
Walt Disney World Railroad Main Street / Fantasyland 7 16 ~20 min

Short, but not quite as flat: Dumbo (6 / 18), The Barnstormer (6 / 18), Tomorrowland Speedway (10 / 19), Under the Sea (5 / 21; its Lightning Lane sold out on 1 of 35 measured days, 2026-09-07 to 2026-10-11) and Astro Orbiter (7 / 21). One way to order it: the flat-wait Fantasyland and Tomorrowland small rides don’t reward timing, so ride them whenever you’re close by. Then spend the measured afternoon dips: Pirates at 2 PM (15 posted), Space Mountain standby at 2 PM (23) and Meet Mickey at 2 PM (13). Those three sit in three different lands in the same hour, so you can’t take all of them. Default order: Space Mountain first (23 at 2 PM against a 38-minute average daily peak), then Pirates (15 at 2 PM against 23 in the noon hour), then Meet Mickey (13 at 2 PM against a 31-minute average daily peak). Whichever two you drop, Haunted Mansion is the no-timing fallback — its standby holds at 24–25 posted from 1 to 5 PM.

Sit-down breaks

From the table above, the seated ones are the PeopleMover, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, the Enchanted Tiki Room, Country Bear Musical Jamboree and The Hall of Presidents. The one worth adding is “it’s a small world” (6 / 19): run time is ~10 min in our attractions table, while our ride notes put the full cruise nearer 14 minutes — either way, it’s the air-conditioned sit-down to time your group’s rest around.

Getting around

Our data doesn’t measure walking routes, so this guide doesn’t invent shortcuts — but two clusters do the work for you. In Adventureland, Pirates of the Caribbean (5 in the first open hour), Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room (8 / 10) and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin (5 / 14) are three attractions without leaving the land. And the Tangled restrooms sit between Haunted Mansion and “it’s a small world”, so the roomiest restrooms in the park, a shaded seating nook with charging outlets along the wall, and Fantasyland’s longest sit-down are all one stop.

Pro tip: For a hot-afternoon reset, chain three neighbouring indoor shows across Adventureland, Frontierland and Liberty Square: the Tiki Room (10 minutes), Country Bear Musical Jamboree (16) and The Hall of Presidents (25). That’s about 51 minutes of seated show (derived), with average daily peaks of only 10, 10 and 14 minutes posted.

Three Sample Days Built From the Data

Every time below is a typical-day plan, not a guarantee: a late-closing day with a 9:00 AM opening, posted waits. Follow the order, not the clock.

On an 8:00 AM opening, our advice is to run the same order an hour earlier, using the first-open-hour figures for the first steps. On a 6:00 PM closing date, use each plan’s 6 PM swap. Every figure from 6 PM on comes only from the 31 late-closing days (see At a Glance).

Plan A: Thrill-seekers (TRON Single Pass + Multi Pass)

Plan B: Families with little kids (Multi Pass, optional Seven Dwarfs Single Pass)

Plan C: The no-Lightning-Lane day

Pro tip: Check the SupaPark live board on the day. If a ride is down or posting below its usual, swap the order. The plan is a default, not a contract.

Mistakes We See Every Week

Most bad Magic Kingdom days come from a handful of predictable decisions. Here’s what each one costs in posted minutes, and what to do instead.

Mistake What the data shows (posted) Do this instead
Heading through the castle to Fantasyland first Fantasyland saves less at opening: Peter Pan’s ~20 (29 → 49), Pooh ~17 (20 → 37), Seven Dwarfs ~16 (36 → 52), all derived. Tiana’s saves ~36 and Big Thunder ~30 Start on the Frontierland–Adventureland loop
Booking Tiana’s or Big Thunder when you’ll be there at opening They sold out on 94% and 97% of days, yet post 7 and 12 in the first open hour Ride them at opening; book Peter Pan’s Flight and Winnie the Pooh
Riding the opening-hour rides at 2 PM Tiana’s 33 at 2 PM (7 at opening), Big Thunder 33 (12), Jungle Cruise 31 (12) Ride them in the first hour
Booking a Lightning Lane for a ride that rarely sells out See the table below Ride those standby and spend the selection on Peter Pan’s Flight or Winnie the Pooh
Using your first selection on Space Mountain It sold out on 34% of days, at a median of 6:01 PM; Peter Pan’s sold out on 97% by a median of 12:00 PM Make Space Mountain a late refill, or ride it at 2 PM (about 23 posted)
Planning a late evening on a 6 PM closing date 25 of our 56 days closed at 6:00 PM Check your date’s published closing first

Rides that rarely sell out

Ride Lightning Lane sold out on Avg daily peak (posted)
“it’s a small world” 0 of 35 days 19 min
Under the Sea 1 of 35 21 min
Mad Tea Party 1 of 35 13 min
Dumbo 2 of 35 18 min
The Magic Carpets of Aladdin 2 of 34 14 min
The Barnstormer 3 of 35 18 min
Tomorrowland Speedway 5 of 35 19 min
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 of 34 25 min

A selection spent on any of these skips a standby line that peaks at 25 posted minutes or less. The same selection on Peter Pan’s Flight skips a line with a 49-minute average daily peak that sells out by a median of 12:00 PM.

How fast the lines grow early

From the 9 AM to the 10 AM clock hour: Tiana’s 8 → 18, Buzz Lightyear 15 → 28, Big Thunder 15 → 25, Jungle Cruise 17 → 31. The 9 AM hour mixes first-hour readings (36 days) and second-hour readings (the 20 days that opened at 8:00 AM), so treat this as how fast lines grow in the first two hours, not an exact cost of arriving late. Arriving at opening loses part of that climb. Being inside before your date’s published opening loses none of it.

Riding at 2 PM isn’t always wrong

The park average at 2 PM (36) is actually lower than at noon (38), and some rides are better then. Space Mountain posts about 23 at 2 PM (31 at noon) and Pirates 15 (23 at noon). For TRON standby, see “The Headliners, Ride by Ride”. The mistake is spending 2 PM on the rides that were short at opening.

Following an outdated guide

As of this edition, the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat are closed permanently, and Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is closed for a reimagining. In Frontierland, put that time into Tiana’s and Big Thunder at opening.

Pro tip: Space Mountain makes a good late refill. Its Multi Pass sold out on only 34% of days, at a daytime median of 6:01 PM, so it’s usually still there after your midday selections.

Frequently Asked Questions

How tall do you have to be to ride TRON?

48 inches, the tallest requirement in the park. Rider Switch is available. The full height table is in “Ride Fit: Heights, Thrills and Rider Switch”. 38 inches is the step that opens two coasters at once.

Does TRON have a single rider line?

Our attractions data lists no single-rider line for TRON. Check the posted signage at the entrance on the day.

Does TRON use a virtual queue, or should I buy the Single Pass?

We don’t track virtual queues. We recorded a posted standby wait for TRON on all 56 measured days. Plan around the Single Pass: it sold out on all 35 tracked days, 30 of them before 7:00 AM on the day itself. Check My Disney Experience the week you go for current access. If Single Pass is already gone when you look, inventory does sometimes come back during the day: on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train it reappeared on 22 of its sold-out days, median 1:48 PM. SupaPark’s Lightning Lane refill alerts flag that the moment inventory shows up again — email on the free tier at supapark.com, push on the iPhone and Android app with a paid plan — and you buy it in My Disney Experience.

Does TRON go upside down?

No. It’s 5 of 5 on our thrill scale, with no inversions.

How big is the drop on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure?

About 50 feet, with a top speed of about 40 mph. Minimum height 40 inches. Ride it early: 7 minutes posted in the first open hour, against a 36-minute 1 PM clock-hour average.

Does Space Mountain have drops?

Yes. Minimum height 44 inches. It’s a standby ride: 23 posted at 2 PM, and on weekends its average daily peak is 45 against 35 on weekdays.

How long does each ride last, and is it worth the wait?

Run times come from our attractions table; waits are posted. The last column divides ride length by the ride’s average daily posted peak (derived).

Ride Length Avg daily peak (posted) Ride minutes per posted minute at peak
“it’s a small world” ~10 min 19 ~0.53
Pirates of the Caribbean ~9 min 25 ~0.36
Haunted Mansion ~8 min 29 ~0.28
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure ~11 min 43 ~0.26
Jungle Cruise ~10 min 41 ~0.24
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ~4 min 42 ~0.10
Peter Pan’s Flight ~3 min 49 ~0.06
TRON Lightcycle / Run ~2 min 74 ~0.03

“it’s a small world” and Pirates give the most ride per minute of peak wait, so they’re your midday standby. TRON and Peter Pan’s give the least, so buy or book them.

Which day of the week is best?

Our data splits weekdays from weekends; it can’t rank Tuesday against Thursday. Weekend posted peaks ran higher at the top end: TRON’s average daily peak was 69 on weekdays and 85 on weekends (~16 more, derived), Space Mountain’s 35 and 45. The Multi Pass median was $27 on weekdays and $29 on weekends. Your date’s closing time matters more than its weekday. A 6:00 PM close (25 of our 56 days) removes the whole evening. For picking dates, SupaPark’s park crowd forecast, measured on park-wide posted waits, had a mean absolute error of 8.6 minutes one day ahead, about 25% on average, across 117 graded dates. Further out than we grade, it’s a directional outlook.

Which rides should I never spend a Multi Pass selection on?

Any ride you’ll get on at opening (Tiana’s, Big Thunder, Jungle Cruise), plus the rides that rarely sold out, such as “it’s a small world” (0 of 35 days). The full list with counts is in “Lightning Lane at Magic Kingdom: What Sells Out and When”.

Pro tip: TRON’s motorbike seats don’t suit everyone. Each train has two accessible seats at the rear with a normal seat and lap bar; ask a cast member before you board.

How We Know: The Data Behind This Guide

Every wait, sellout and price here comes from SupaPark’s own measurements. Heights and ride lengths come from our attractions table, and the ride facts we cite, like drop sizes, were corroborated by two or three independent sources.

Which window is which

Measurement Window
Posted waits 56 days, August 17 – October 11, 2026 (per-ride samples can be smaller: The Hall of Presidents 55, the railroad 42)
Lightning Lane sellouts up to 35 days per ride, September 7 – October 11 (Laugh Floor through October 10)
Lightning Lane prices the last 30 days
Forecast grading 117 graded dates one day ahead, published on supapark.com/accuracy

What this window doesn’t cover

All the posted-wait data comes from late summer and early fall. If you’re visiting in a holiday or spring-break week, treat the hour-by-hour shapes as directional, not literal. Observed Lightning Lane prices describe only the last 30 days, and prices vary by date, so check yours in My Disney Experience.

Posted waits

SupaPark records the posted standby wait, every few minutes, for the Magic Kingdom attractions that show one, and keeps a half-hour archive. Only published park hours count. A half-hour slot counts only when it has at least two readings while the ride was open, so a ride that was down doesn’t drag an average to zero. The park-wide curve averages the eight busiest rides, and an hour appears only when at least half of them were measured in it. A ride’s own clock hour appears only when enough days have valid readings for it, which is why some rides have gaps (Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has no 8 PM figure).

These are posted waits: what the sign and the app say. We don’t measure how long people actually stand in line. Where SupaPark shows a posted-versus-actual estimate elsewhere on the site, that model is calibrated on the public TouringPlans 2018–2019 dataset. Every “difference” figure in this guide is a derived difference between two posted waits, not a measured saving in line.

Comparing hours fairly

Lightning Lane sellouts

We check Lightning Lane availability repeatedly through the day. A sellout time is when the checks first found no return times left, and inventory that reappears later the same day is recorded as a comeback. Days a ride was down or closed are excluded and the current day is never counted, so per-ride samples vary: Big Thunder 29 days, Space Mountain and Laugh Floor 32. A ride needs 14 measured days to be reported. The Single Pass/Multi Pass split matches Disney’s current lineup.

Insider tips

Insider tips are either hand-curated by our editors or distilled from research and passed by a three-reviewer verification panel. Unverified tips are never shown.

Forecasts

This guide doesn’t forecast your day. One day ahead, SupaPark’s park crowd forecast had a mean absolute error of 8.6 minutes, about 25% on average, across 117 dates. Twenty-eight days ahead, it was 9.9 minutes (about 25%). Beyond 28 days ahead, treat a forecast as a directional outlook.

What this means for your day

This guide is refreshed every 14 days with a new data window. SupaPark is an independent service and isn’t affiliated with The Walt Disney Company.

Pro tip: When two dates’ forecast park-wide posted waits are less than about 9 minutes apart, treat them as too close to call. That’s the forecast’s typical error, and comparing two forecasts adds two errors, so it’s a rule of thumb (derived).

Key Takeaways

Seven rules to carry into Magic Kingdom, each with the number behind it.

Ride First hour (posted, min) Avg daily peak (posted, min) Lightning Lane
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure 7 43 sold out on 94% of days, median 2:44 PM
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 12 42 97%, median 12:05 PM
Jungle Cruise 12 41 97%, median 12:52 PM
Peter Pan’s Flight 29 49 97%, median 12:00 PM
Winnie the Pooh 20 37 100%, median 12:18 PM
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train 36 52 Single Pass, 86%; came back on 22 sold-out days, median 1:48 PM
TRON Lightcycle / Run 39 74 Single Pass, 100%; gone before 7 AM on 30 of 35 days

Posted waits: August 17 – October 11, 2026 (56 days). Lightning Lane sellouts: September 7 – October 11. This guide is refreshed every 14 days.

  1. Check your date’s opening time. The park opened at 9:00 AM on 36 of 56 days and at 8:00 AM on 20. Be inside before it opens.
  2. Ride the biggest posted-wait difference first: Tiana’s (~36 min), then Big Thunder (~30) and Jungle Cruise (~29) on one loop. Seven Dwarfs saves only ~16 (36 → 52). TRON is the exception: it already posts 39 in the first hour, only ~10 less than at 2 PM, so buy it instead. All differences are derived from posted waits.
  3. Buy TRON’s Single Pass in your advance window. If it’s gone, ride standby at 2 PM (49 min posted), never at 6–8 PM (68–80).
  4. On Multi Pass, select Peter Pan’s Flight, then Winnie the Pooh; refill with Buzz Lightyear, then Haunted Mansion. Never select a ride you’ll rope-drop, or “it’s a small world”, Under the Sea, Dumbo or the Mad Tea Party.
  5. Use the afternoon dips: Space Mountain at 2 PM (23 min, against 31 at noon) and Pirates (15, against 23).
  6. On late-closing nights, eat from 6 to 8 PM and ride from 9 PM. The park averages 48–49 min at 6–7 PM and is still 44 at 8 PM, then 30 at 9 PM. Jungle Cruise posts 12 at 9 PM; TRON is still 70. Evening figures come only from the 31 late-closing days. On the 25 days that closed at 6:00 PM there’s no evening.
  7. Recheck Seven Dwarfs after lunch. Turn on a SupaPark refill alert, then buy in My Disney Experience when it comes back.

Pro tip: A weekday helps TRON (69 vs 85 min at the average daily peak) and Space Mountain (35 vs 45) most. If you can choose, put Magic Kingdom on a weekday.
