Your Hollywood Studios Morning Plan Should Not Start With Slinky
The biggest mistake you can make at Disney's Hollywood Studios is assuming rope drop means you should automatically sprint to Slinky Dog Dash or Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
That sounds backwards, because those are two of the park's hardest rides to get on with a reasonable wait. But that is exactly why everyone else has the same idea. By the time regular park opening hits, Early Theme Park Entry guests may already have stacked those lines, and the posted wait can look very un-rope-drop-like before your day has even started.
The smarter play is this: decide whether you are using rope drop to chase one monster ride or to clear multiple medium-demand rides fast. Trying to do both is where plans fall apart.
The real Hollywood Studios rope drop problem
Hollywood Studios has a lopsided ride lineup. A few attractions carry massive demand: Slinky Dog Dash, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Toy Story Mania, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster when operating.
