How to Salvage Your Day When Rise of the Resistance Breaks Down
Published June 25, 2026 · Updated October 12, 2026
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the most ambitious attraction at Walt Disney World. It is also the most mechanically complex, which means it breaks down. A lot.
If you are spending the day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, assuming Rise will run perfectly from open to close is a rookie mistake. You need a contingency plan for when the ride inevitably goes down. Here is exactly how to handle a breakdown without letting it derail your day.
What Happens to Your Lightning Lane Single Pass?
Rise of the Resistance is a Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction, meaning it is bought à la carte (it is not part of Lightning Lane Multi Pass). If you paid for a Single Pass and the ride breaks down during your arrival window, do not panic.
The move: Check your My Disney Experience app. Disney’s system will automatically convert your Lightning Lane into a recovery pass. This means you can return to ride Rise of the Resistance at any point later in the day once it reopens. You are no longer locked into a specific time slot. Go enjoy the rest of the park and come back when it is running.
The Standby Line Dilemma
If you are in the standby line when the ride stops, you have a choice to make. If it is a minor delay, Cast Members might let you wait it out. If it is a major malfunction, they will dump the queue and force everyone to exit.
The move: If you haven’t entered the building yet and the line stops moving, bail. Your time is too valuable to spend an hour standing still hoping a trackless dark ride resets quickly. Pivot immediately to Slinky Dog Dash or Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and keep an eye on wait times.
The End-of-Day Trap (Do Not Ignore This)
We often recommend riding headliners in the last two hours before park close, as wait times naturally plummet when families head to Fantasmic! or back to their hotels. Usually, jumping in line for Rise of the Resistance right before closing is a brilliant strategy.
But there is a massive exception to this rule.
The move: Avoid gambling on Rise of the Resistance in the final two hours if it has had daytime downtime.
Why? Because everyone who had their Lightning Lane Single Pass interrupted earlier in the day is going to return in the evening to use their recovery pass. This floods the Lightning Lane queue. Since Disney prioritizes paying guests, the standby line will crawl to a near halt, and the wait time will balloon into a miserable, multi-hour slog. If Rise breaks down during the day, do not save it for the end of the night.
Let SupaPark Snipe the Reopening
The worst thing you can do when Rise of the Resistance breaks down is waste your day constantly refreshing the Disney app or hovering around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge waiting for the doors to open.
The move: Let SupaPark do the work. Our live alert engine detects ride downtime instantly. We ping you the moment it goes down so you do not waste a trek across the park, and more importantly, we alert you the exact second it reopens. When you get that notification, you can power-walk to the entrance and jump into a near-empty standby line before the rest of the park even realizes the ride is back up.
