The Single Pass Rides to Book Before They Disappear
Published July 13, 2026 · Updated September 30, 2026
The smartest Lightning Lane Single Pass strategy is not “buy every headliner.” It is “protect the one ride that can wreck your day if you miss it.”
At Walt Disney World, only five attractions are Lightning Lane Single Pass rides: TRON Lightcycle / Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios, and Avatar Flight of Passage at Animal Kingdom. Everything else with Lightning Lane access is Multi Pass.
That distinction matters because Single Pass is the à-la-carte purchase. You are paying separately to skip one specific line. On a busy day, that can be a brilliant use of money. On a quieter day, or when you can hit the ride at rope drop or near close, it can be a very expensive shortcut you did not need.
Here is the practical priority order: Guardians, Rise of the Resistance, Flight of Passage, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, then TRON, with some park-day nuance.
The Real Rule: Buy the Ride You Cannot Easily Replace
Single Pass is most valuable when three things are true:
- The standby line gets brutal.
- The ride is hard to time for free.
- Your group will be genuinely disappointed if you miss it.
If all three apply, buy early when your booking window opens. Disney resort guests can make Lightning Lane selections starting 7 days before arrival for the whole trip; off-site guests get 3 days. That window opens at 7:00 AM Eastern on your eligible day.
If only one or two apply, slow down. Standby is still free. Rope drop, Early Theme Park Entry, late-night riding, meal-time dips, and weather-driven crowd shifts can all beat the paid shortcut if you use them well.
This is where a lot of guests overspend. They see “Single Pass” and assume it means “must-buy.” It does not. It means “separate decision.”
Guardians Is the EPCOT Single Pass to Treat Seriously
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is EPCOT’s only Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction, and it is the cleanest “buy it if it matters” ride in the park.
Why? EPCOT is otherwise one of the easier parks to do without paying heavily for skip-the-line access. Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure are the big Multi Pass priorities, but much of the rest of the park can be handled with timing, festivals, shows, and World Showcase pacing.
Guardians is different. It is a true headliner, sits outside Multi Pass, and tends to be one of the first Single Passes planners should check when their window opens. If your group is coaster-friendly and Guardians is the top EPCOT ride on your list, do not leave it for later just because EPCOT feels like a relaxed park.
The money move: buy Guardians if it is a must-do, then aim your Multi Pass energy at Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure if those matter to your group. Do not waste paid strategy on rides you can usually catch with smart timing.
Rise of the Resistance Is the Hollywood Studios Stress Test
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is the only Single Pass attraction. Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and the rest of the Lightning Lane lineup fall under Multi Pass.
Rise is the one to solve first because it combines huge demand with operational unpredictability. If it goes down, your “we’ll just wait standby later” plan can get messy fast.
The clean Hollywood Studios setup looks like this: buy Rise of the Resistance Single Pass if it is non-negotiable, make Slinky Dog Dash your first Multi Pass selection, then use rope drop or refills for the next priority. Do not burn strategy on Star Tours unless something unusual is happening; it is often one of the easier standby wins in the park.
If you skip the Rise Single Pass, have a backup plan. Do not stand around Galaxy’s Edge hoping a closed ride comes back quickly. Pivot to Toy Story Land, Tower of Terror, or another nearby priority and let live status guide your next move.
Flight of Passage Is Animal Kingdom’s One Big Paid Question
Avatar Flight of Passage is Animal Kingdom’s Single Pass headliner, and it is usually the only à-la-carte purchase in the park worth considering.
The reason is simple: Animal Kingdom rewards good timing more than most guests realize. Kilimanjaro Safaris is strongest early when animals are more active. Expedition Everest has a single-rider line, which can turn a long posted standby into a much easier wait if your group is willing to split up. Shows, trails, meals, and heat breaks also shape the day more than a pure ride-count plan.
Flight of Passage is the exception. It can command long waits, and on hot, crowded days, spending an hour-plus in standby can drain the whole group before the afternoon even hits.
The smart call: if Flight of Passage is the ride your group came for, either use Early Theme Park Entry aggressively or buy the Single Pass early. If not everyone meets the 44-inch height requirement, check that before you spend. For families with younger kids, Na’vi River Journey, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and well-timed breaks may matter more than forcing the Pandora headliner.
Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs vs. TRON Is a Group Decision
Magic Kingdom has two Single Pass attractions: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle / Run.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is the safer family pick. It has broad appeal, a lower thrill profile, and a line that can get painful because so many groups can ride it. If you have younger coaster fans, grandparents riding with kids, or a group that wants the classic Magic Kingdom headliner without a heavy thrill factor, Seven Dwarfs is often the better Single Pass target.
TRON is the thrill pick. If your group is coaster-focused and TRON is the ride everyone keeps talking about, buy that one and handle Seven Dwarfs with rope drop, late timing, or a standby compromise.
Do not automatically buy both. Magic Kingdom has the deepest ride lineup at Walt Disney World, which means you have more ways to build a great day without paying for every premium shortcut. Multi Pass can do a lot of work here, especially when paired with smart rope drop and late-day touring.
The sharper play is to choose the one true must-ride Single Pass, then let Multi Pass and timing carry the rest.
What to Do If a Single Pass Is Gone
Sold out does not always mean impossible. Availability can shift as plans change, inventory moves, or return windows appear again. The bad strategy is refreshing manually all day and missing the park around you.
Use SupaPark for this. SupaPark tracks Lightning Lane availability, sell-out trends, and refill predictions, then pings you when an opportunity appears. You still complete the purchase in My Disney Experience; SupaPark just makes sure you are looking at the right second instead of staring at your phone for an hour.
If a Single Pass is gone and no refill appears, do not let it wreck the plan. Replace it with the best free lever available:
- Rope drop the ride if you are still early enough.
- Try the final hour of the night if the park schedule supports it.
- Ride during parades, fireworks, meals, or major show windows.
- Pivot to a high-value Multi Pass attraction instead of chasing one lost ride.
At Hollywood Studios, that might mean Slinky Dog Dash first and Tower of Terror later. At EPCOT, that might mean Frozen and Remy’s while Guardians waits for another trip. At Animal Kingdom, it might mean Safaris early, Everest single rider, and a cooler evening pass through Pandora.
The Single Pass Priority Cheat Sheet
If you want the short version, here is the order I would think about them:
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — highest EPCOT priority if your group wants the coaster.
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance — buy early if it is a must-do, because downtime can scramble standby plans.
- Avatar Flight of Passage — worth it when Pandora is the point of your Animal Kingdom day.
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — best Magic Kingdom Single Pass for mixed-age families.
- TRON Lightcycle / Run — best Magic Kingdom Single Pass for thrill-focused groups.
That is not a universal ranking of ride quality. It is a planning ranking: how much stress each one can create if you leave it unresolved.
The Takeaway
Lightning Lane Single Pass should be targeted, not automatic. Buy the ride your group would regret missing, especially Guardians, Rise, or Flight of Passage on a busy day. At Magic Kingdom, choose between Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON based on your group, not fear.
